If I was making league minimum I’d live in one of those states with no income tax. I’d just fly to a different party city every other weekend.

You actually pay taxes for every state you play in during the season.  I work with a sports agency and helping them with their tax returns is a big part of it.

That's bizarre.  Is that specific to MLB?  I can't think of any other line of work that operates that way.

I think it’s all sports leagues, I’ve heard about it with Football and basketball as well. But it seems dumb.  It’s unclear to me why this just isn’t considered work travel. I don’t have to fill out a tax return in California because I presented at a conference in San Diego...

Nope, sometimes it bad enough that playing a playoff game actually costs nfl players money

"Phillies set to make their pitch to Bryce Harper this weekend in Las Vegas. Team owner John Middleton is expected to be in attendance. (Bob Nightengale, USA Today)"

A good way to sell Philly is to do it in Vegas.

Seems he might have been toPhilly a time or two before--I bet they emphasize the hair salons available to Bryce.  And he can start his own Mormon temple.

His tithe will see to that wherever he goes

It's kind of odd how this part of the story has played out.  It was a week or two ago that Philly representatives said they were working on getting something scheduled with Bryce.  It took them a week or so (already late in the game) to even get him to accept a meeting?  I'm still having a hard time seeing Philly being anything other than a device to drive up bidding, but if Bryce/Boras was going to use them like that, you'd think they'd at least feign a little interest in actually wanting to go there.

He hasn’t visited any other city, has he? He wants everyone to come to him.

According to a source, there is momentum building toward Harper's return to Washington, while the Phillies -- who are set to meet with Harper this week in Las Vegas -- appear to be turning up their pursuit of Machado.

"It's heating up," the source said.

He's staying in DC. This sounds like a last ditch effort from Philly. If he was serious with them he go to them.

If I travel to New York more than 10 days a year for work, I have to pay NY taxes. All the more reason not to head to our HQ often.

Machado to Philly makes perfect sense. A complete jerk player for their complete jerk fan base.

Bryce Harper is still expected to meet with #Phillies brass on Saturday. However, a rival executive told me he doesn't believe they'll trump the #Nationals offer, and that he thinks Harper will ultimately return to Washington.

Also reports that Machado is down to Philly and the CWS.

I see no reason to bring him back at anything over 19 million or year at this point.

I really hope we are not bidding against ourselves.  We made a fair offer.  Take it or leave it, Bryce.

We officially are. And it's obvious that our initial offer was too high. It needs to be rescinded to reflect the current market

(Image removed from quote.)

Basically. It should have been clear from the 10 year 300 million no opt out offer that the Nationals want him to stay.

If we can sign both Harper and Rendon I will be happy. If we only sign Rendon I'll be happy. If we sign Harper and not Rendon then I am unhappy.

Regardless, 2019 will be awesome filled with winning and warm hugs. All aboard the hype train.
