I could've done it. (yeah right says the wife). :)
I would have ducked and let the missus handle it.

In Philly we just nod and say "yo" when it's time for the sign of peace.  Avoids all the germs.

They should do this live on national TV.  Joe Buck could announce it.

Will he announce that he's taking his talents to Philly?

He and stark double down on the hype machine. Actually sign Kimbrel for starters.

What I read is that Stark predicted it might drag into February. He’s a good writer but not usually accurate on the rumors.

Phils oughta keep Papelbon in mind if they sign Kimbrel. Repeating history.

Kimbrel choking Harper on the Phillies bench would be interesting.

Just sign already. It’s ok to admit that teams don’t see you as worth as much as you think you are.

This applies to Machado too. Big hit to the ego that no one is offering 400M.

If Machado or Harper signs with the Phils where does that leave the other one? It seems their leverage would be way down with maybe only the White Sox willing to give the one left close to what they want. I think if I was one of them and the Phils came up with a good offer I would want to take it.

Especially when what you are worth is well north of $250M.

I wonder if Harper/Manny will sign the biggest deals they can with opt-outs after year 3 so they can renegotiate after a new CBA hopefully fixes some of the current factors keeping salaries down.

It depends on what factors are fixed - six years of team control on top of minor league options seems like the biggest factor depressing salaries, but I doubt changing it benefits free agents pushing 30

the luxury tax "salary cap" was what I was mainly thinking of.

I'm calling BS on all of the Harper speculation.  This is all Boras driven.  If he had an offer, he would have accepted by now.  I'm not sure he actually ANY offers on the table at this very moment.
Nats - maybe they go back and put the offer back
Phillies - did they ever offer?
Dodgers - nope
White Sox - not that I'm aware
All of these mystery teams out there - not buying it.

He is playing the Nats and Phils off each other in hopes that one makes an offer that will not be considered embarassing to his client.

If the Nats sign Harper and extend Rendon they will be spending about 55 million a year on two guys. The luxury tax threshold will be $210 million in 2021 and who knows after that.

I don't know that upping the luxury tax or reducing the penalties would make all that much difference.  The Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, and now even the Dodgers all have GMs and ownership who have realized that handing long term, fat contracts to 30 year olds is not a way to build a winner.  All those teams are counting on guys under team control more than the Nats are.

I also think Boras's approach is out-dated.  If he wanted to get a big contract for Bryce, he needed to do it a couple years ago when both sides had leverage.   If he Harper's best financial interests in mind, he should have been trading some free agency years for higher salaries the last couple years with some combination of long term, deferred money (in case he breaks his body again) and opt out options.   I think the days of the 300 million guaranteed contracts are about done, regardless of  the luxury tax situation.

Boras will let this play out until March if he has to, but I think that is the wrong approach.   He should be asking Bryce, "Dude, where the F do you want to play?" and then go to that club and get an offer.  Negotiate with that team from there, but hammer it out in one day.

The one caveat to all of this is that I think he knows he has a safety net in Ted Lerner.  He knows he can always call the old man and ask for a favor if he gets in a real pickle.

IMO, 80% likelihood he is back in DC next year.

I say 60% Nats at somewhere around their original offer, 30% Dodgers at something like 40/year for 3 years, with a player option for x years for 80 million, 10% a jackpot contract with the Phillies or someone else.
