Who would we have to replace him with? I think we are stuck trotting him out for awhile :(
Gray - Fedde - Adon - Rogers - Sanchez.  Essentially, swap him with Rogers.

Hell, I'll take just about any other warm body. Adon has given up the second most runs in MLB but I'd rather watch him try and figure it out than watch Corbin get shelled.

I guess it's worth giving him a go as a relief pitcher, but I don't think it is very likely that he is any better at that than a random relief pitcher making league minimum.

I think the game has just passed him by and he's no longer a major league pitcher, and I don't see any reason to hope that he will be again.

His spin rate is way down on his slider and some other pitches from 2019, and just isn't effective any more.

It's probably a combination of sticky stuff crack down, age, and low 90s fastballs just not cutting it in the majors any more.   Also I think he used to benefit from getting strikes called out of the zone that umps don't call any more.

Do you have the spin rate data or a good article that goes into it? I tried diving into this recently. It looked like his overall spin rate was slightly lower but not as low as bigger offenders. Unfortunately, the best pitcher-specific data I found was on NYT and I got paywalled after a few minutes of playing with it.

What's odd is that in 2021 his slider release point was all jacked up and he's releasing it later than before. Is that to try and generate more spin? Sticky stuff aided late release points, so I was surprised that his release point was actually later than when his slider was a top five pitch in all of baseball.

Oh, awesome. I have been using this on mobile but didn't realize it had the spin data down below also - thank you.

He lost the most spin right after 2019. Then slight downticks each year since.

Which reminds me that during all the CBA back-and-forth, I don’t recall anything about the new stickier grip ball they were talking about rolling out. Anyone hear about any progress there?

I can’t find anything after the news they were testing prototypes last summer. And we’re hearing the opposite right now, that the balls are garbo and inconsistent.

Its pretty obvious MLB is freaking with the baseball. But theycfreaked with it in 2019. Hell, the only reason we won the NLDS was because they ran out of the juiced baseballs in the 2019 season, and had to use the unjuiced ones. If Will Smith hits a baseball from the beginning of the year, the Dodgers walk off Game 5 before Howie ever comes to the plate.

Well Corbin should be well rested for his start today as our " Ace" and best hope to stop the skid. After all , he only threw 1 2/3 innings on his last start

It's thoughts like this that make me glad I cut the cord at the start of 2020 and haven't subscribed to anything that carries MASN

If you're enough of a masochist, it's the free game of the day today on mlb.tv.  (Don't know if it'll work in the DC area, though.)

Not looking for a good game against the Rockies for Corbin. Breaking ball pitchers don't usually fair too well in Colorado because of the air.

Always good to go into a Corbin start with low expectations

well, last 4 starts:
6.00 ERA, 3.19 FIP, .261 BAA, .324 BAbip, 19Ks, 8BB, 21 innings pitched.

He's had two solid starts in a row, but way way too soon to get excited.

We've seen glimmers of hope, and I think last night was his best outing since 2019.

Let's hope it's real.

I have asked this question in a game day thread. Was Corbins four pitch 3 out first inning in his last game a Nationals record?

According to this list, four Nats have had three-pitch innings: https://www.baseball-almanac.com/feats/3_pitch_inning.shtml

Ramon Ortiz, 07-30-2006 (5th inning)
Matt Chico, 04-11-2008 (7th inning)
Stephen Strasburg, 09-29-2017 (6th inning)
Jimmy Cordero, 08-31-2018 (8th inning)

Thank you. Those names bring back some memories except for J. Codero. I never realized that many pitchers would have accomplished that.

article on how Riley Adams may become Corbin's personal catcher.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/05/06/patrick-corbin-riley-adams-regular-catcher/

Quote
Corbin has made six starts and has a 7.16 ERA. In 19⅓ innings throwing to Adams, the lefty has allowed seven earned runs, struck out 15 and walked five, including an eight-inning complete game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on Wednesday. In 8⅓ innings throwing to Keibert Ruiz, the team’s unquestioned starter, he has allowed 15 earned runs, struck out 11 and walked eight, including a loss to the front-running New York Mets on Opening Day and a disastrous outing against the San Francisco Giants on April 22.
