82 hits given up in 60.1 innings. 9 hits in 6 IP yesterday. Par for the course.

0 walks yesterday; not par for the course.  Walks matter.  Of course he was going up against a weak team.

What I don't understand is the amount of runs allowed in the first inning by Corbin as well as Fedde , Gray and Adon ?

Corbin is on track to finish dead last in ERA for the second season in a row among pitchers who qualify.   I wonder if that has been done before?    It seems like it would be tough to get in enough innings to qualify while keeping an ERA so high!

Says a lot about the state of pitching in MLB these days.

Corbin has actually been improving, month to month.

Starting the season with an 8.69 ERA in April is a pretty good strategy if you are going for the most improved ribbon.

fwiw, I don't like being negative at all.  I've always found reason for hope even in the early years of the Nats, and I was an expos fan prior.   But man, this year is tough.

The problem with Corbin is he has no relationship with the fans.  If he [edit  = was abducted by aliens] tomorrow would anyone shed a tear?

disagree. Tons of fans only think of Game 7 and will still talk about it when he is through. Beyond that, there is frustration, not hate. You don't hear negative stuff shouted at him like Papelbon. More the typical  boos when he gets shelled, golf claps and cheers the rest of the time

Comment is somewhat harsh - MLB players (and fans)  are human beings, not machines... ;)

That's a bit extreme.

And I give him a lot of credit for the World Series. He was clutch in relief.

What thought process led to this mess of a post, and is it the sort of thing a trip to rehab could fix?

If Corbin's problem was a lack of relationship to the fans, shouldn't he just go give out hugs and beers by the turnstiles when he's not pitching and then seen his ERA drop 4 runs?

I've edited the post to the gist of what I think was meant.  Basically, if he was no longer around here, in baseball, and on the Nats, would anyone really feel something emotionally.

Fine with me.  In DC that qualifies him to be in the top 10% of people in terms of sociability.

He at least takes the ball every 5 days.  Gio did too.  It's about the nicest thing I have on Gio Gonzalez, but he took the ball every time even when it was going badly.

Me too, but my alcohol consumption won't lower Corbin's ERA.

Let's see: he puts up a 6+ ERA over about 5 innings per start.  Figure that is 5/9 over a 3:30 game, or 210 minutes.  (5*210)/9 = roughly 117 minutes per outing.  Call it 2 hours.  Can you consume more than a six-pack over 2 hours?  We will call that Out-Corbining Corbin.

Remember how we all thought Corbin stunk in 2020?  He's pitched about the same number of innings as that season.  I'd love the 2020 line:

4.66 ERA (vs. 6.62), K/BB 3.33 (vs. 2.12),

We've reached the point in the contract where we expected a decline. And, even if he had performed as expected the last two years, it wouldnt have mattered much. We got our money's worth
