The White Sox did that in 1979...

Did you take your disco records to the Park?

I'd love it if they had a "Blow it Up Day." I'm not a hater, but the chance to restock with what you get for Harper, Murphy, Gio, Madson, Kelley, Herrera, Adams, Wieters, and Reynolds has me more excited than pushing for a wild card.  Where I differ from Slate, UMD, and few others is that I think the transition  core is already here in Soto, Turner, Eaton, Robles, Scherzer, and the Orchid. I'd even see what the market is for Taylor.  Keep Rendon if you can, figure out the right side of the infield, and you have a nice lineup even before you see what you get back from moving a lot of help to contenders.  That isn't even a complete white flag this year.  Yes, the lineup is unproven, but so are your rivals.  There's probably a couple of these pieces you don't / can't move (Reynolds will not bring back a boat load, maybe you hold onto a Murphy if you expect to offer him a QO), and those can maybe help you make the wild card game or even win the division.

I actually agree with all of this. I think we can be competitive again in 2019. This is a golden opportunity to re-stock and even shake up the "core."

I could see a blow-up day and a fresh roster gelling better with Martinez as well, honestly. I think they'd all be more loose.

For "Blow Up Day," they could sell discounted BUDs at the Park and at the bars that have affiliated with the Nats.

Marketing

Oh, for Mitlen's sake, the BUDs wouldn't even have to be beer.   :pimp:

As part of our selling we should try and pry Sonny Gray from the Yankees. He would offer a good buy low value and would put a high upside arm in the rotation for the next two seasons. Add Pat Corbin in FA and your have the makings of a great rotation for 2019.

Many times have stated here we should have traded for him last year.  He seems like a guy who would thrive more outside the Bronx Zoo.  And the AL East.  Of course the Yankees will want Robles or Soto or Kieboom.  So probably a no go.

Did you ever go to an Islanders game at Aloha?  A few of us went one year--Maybe 1986?? I think there was only about 100 people in the park total.  Also attended a few UH games at their stadium--nice place.

He's a target for me for sure. I wonder if we could package Gio & someone like Taylor for Sonny & prospects.

Gio doesn't Gio as often as Sonny has Sonny'd for the NYY, so that sounds reasonable.

As I understand it the Yanks know they are selling low on Gray and just want him gone. 0% chance they have any illusions of getting a top 100 guy for him. I'd say we could get him for like Matt Adams and maybe a guy like Daniel Johnson. Adams would look great as a DH in NY.

Cancel all pending “buy” talks that move prospects. It’s going to take more than a catcher to upgrade this team.

Good to see Chelsea from the WaPost saying she doesn't see a major firesale and it'd be "out of character" for Rizzo to sell. DC media really doing a great job being aware of the situation and holding the team accountable for a terrible season. Already setting up the articles on Tuesday on how the team is "betting on itself" and "its just a couple games from turning the corner" and "it's still a contending team."

1. Scherzer. I want prospects, international $$$. The biggest haul ever. We pay remaining years salary. You take the rest.

2. Doolittle
3. Gio
4. Tanner
5. Harper
6. Adams
7. Herrera
8. Kintzler
9. Madson
10. Miller

2 thru 10 Give me lots

11. Grace.
12. Kelley
13. Solis
14. Reynolds
15. Murphy

11 thru 15 get what you can.

16. Zimmerman - We won't be good by the time you are done playing. Go try to get your ring. Extra low prices.

If you gonna sell... FIRE SALE. Anyone who won't be here and in their prime in 2022 must go.

Rendon is offered an extension in the off season. If it's a no, trade during offseason.

Or if you don't wasn't to sell, trade for JT. But the addition of JT is the only thing that will solve the issue with our Nationals. We need a middle of the order hitter. And he is the only middle of the order catcher we can get. Unless you want to get an infielder and sit someone already here.

That one's gonna be a no for me since we can just sign Grandal or Ramos in the off-season.  I'm not so sure that Realmuto is gonna be THIS good over the next 2 years and I love the ideas of building around the young core of Kieboom, Soto, and Robles especially if we can lock two of them up early.

:lmao: Tanner and Harper have no value. Madson, Kintzler, Miller, and Gio will bring back very little.

Nobody the Nats will trade will bring back much.  Which is why I was confused when you said if they didn’t sell they would be mediocre for 5 years. I can’t imagine anyone bringing the Nats back any prospects of consequence.

Why hang on to guys like Gio, Murphy, Madson, and Herrera with the team only having a small chance of making the playoffs?  Trade them all and out of the middling prospects you get maybe you hit on a gem or two.  It's like the draft--the more picks you have the better the chance of coming up with someone good.  Harper is a different case--to the casual fan he is still great.  When they see what little return he would bring at this time their would be a backlash.

All I can say is they better find a way to lock up Rendon this offseason--I can see him pressing next year and having a bad year if he is an impending free agent.
