This is a blessing. Shut him down for the year. Season is lost anyway. Just pray it's not long term serious.

Meh, this season is lost anyways because of the lineup, just shut him down and look at 2019.

Jeff Passan@JeffPassan
Sources: The Washington Nationals have started discussions with teams to gauge interest if they decide to sell. Of particular interest are Kelvin Herrera, Shawn Kelley and Ryan Madson, three free-agent-to-be relievers. Nats are telling teams they’ll know by end of weekend.

Jeff Passan@JeffPassan
It’s worth noting explicitly: The Nationals have not decided to sell. They’re doing what any prudent team in their position would: getting a sense of the market so if they do decide to sell, they can put together deals that normally take days in 24 hours. It’s the right play.

Buster Olney@Buster_ESPN
The Nationals told teams early this month to keep an eye on them in case they took a downward turn, and that they might become sellers if necessary.

What a joke this team is. Arguably the most talented roster in the league but we cant contend.

Sell them all. Starting with Harper and Zimmerman.

I'd look to trade Rendon and Turner as well. Get rid of the superstars with no heart.

Keep Eaton, Soto, Robles, Taylor, Difo and Doolittle.

Get rid of the rest of the deadweight bums.

One of key reasons the #Nats don’t want to sell is the mediocrity of the NL East race. The #Braves are 25-25 since May 23 while #Phillies are 28-25. The #Nats, however, are 22-29  in same stretch.

And, I'd add, still have a bunch of games left vs. both teams.

Preseason consensus best lineup and best rotation.  So yes, arguably so,

Which means both teams could easily go .500 the rest of the way. Or worse.  Which means we'd have to go roughly seven games over .500 the rest of the way, which isn't unrealistic.  So this talk of selling, at this point, is ridiculous.

Sweep or take 3 from the Marlins: Buy.
Get swept or take 1 from Marlins: Sell
Spilt with Marlins:

So we have a chance - a chance - at a division win. What makes anyone think this team can win a World Series? We have reliable starter. Our goal should be a World Series, not a turd NL East title. Sell so our next roster has a chance at a World Series.

I think that what the Braves and Philthies do factors into it.

I ask this question seriously? Is there any player on the Nats that a majority of WNFF likes? I mean I would have guessed Murphy and Eaton, but people here even turned on them when they were slow to come back from injury. Is there any player that has built up enough good will that they could have a slump or make a mistake and not have people here calling for their benching? I actually can't think of anyone...
It is a message board. WNFF is no more negative than any other message board.

I get frustrated with players like Zim, Harper, etc, but I don't know them personally. I can't find a valid reason to dislike them. I can want their ass on the bench, but I never feel animosity. I think some people allow legit animosity to enter their mindset.

What's the Nats record over that time?  Why does anyone expect the Nats to improve but not either of the other two?

Can't see Kieboom at 2B or Severino at C next year and can't see that rotation 3-5. The good news is that $82.6 million is coming off the books just between Gio, Murphy, Madson, Bryce, Wieters, Kelley and Herrera so Rizzo will have plenty of $$$ to play with this winter whether Bryce is back or not. Get rid of Roark and Gio, and find a 3rd and 4th starter and let Ross/Fedde/whoever battle it out for the 5 slot.
With or without Bryce, it is pretty easy to see the Nats using salary flexibility to reload the pitching staff this offseason and marching out a contender on opening day.

Playoffs are a crapshoot. You maximize your chances. Didn’t an 83 win Cardinals team win the World Series. Plus, winning the division isn’t going to be easier in coming seasons.

That is where I am at. I want to quit on this season, but a good 10 days, a series sweep, and suddenly the Nats are in a position they don't deserve to be in.

That's all I care about.  I want a reason to watch the games.  Otherwise, there are two+ months left with no baseball, far as I'm concerned.

That's what I was thinking too.  The Marlins stink, but it's on the road.  A sweep is a stretch, but if you can't take three against the worst, it's all a waste of time.  During the game yesterday, I think one graphic had the Nats with only a .415 winning percentage against teams with a winning record when they played them.  That's horrible.

I don’t disagree completely, but I see it as a measure of where this team is, if the can’t muster a series win vs the Marlins, it doesn’t really matter what the other teams do, the Nats aren’t going anywhere.

I don't really see how taking 3 of 4 from a team that isn't even pretending to be competitive tells us anything more than losing series vs. Atlanta and Milwaukee. This team collectively needs to do a 180 to make the playoffs. Don't see it and don't see how beating a turd team makes it worth it. Yeah, we might be closer, but then in August we suck again and we're blown a chance to reload.

My thoughts also. It's hard to see them turning it around.

I think the Nationals really do have an opportunity to do a fire sale this July and still be contenders next April. The pitching staff should be good enough to keep the team in the mix for at least a few more years.

Marlins have been playing decently of late. They have won 6 out of 10 and have climbed out of the cellar. I just think it's a basic minimum test. If you cant win this series it really is time to hang it up. But the Nats next 10 games are vs the Marlins, Reds, and Mets. Beating up on mediocre teams is how you climb back into this.
