The Phillies.  RAJ isn't there anymore.

Very true. Still, they might get desperate here in a bit, particularly if the Braves make a move to shore up the pen.

DBacks also in the market for a SS. Perhaps we can get Robbie Ray back?

Funny thing about that play, when I saw it, I assumed it was foul and that there were two strikes (thought it hit him).  Anyone else have that reaction? Anyway, I was disturbed that he bunted with two strikes, but nowhere near as disturbed as when I found out the real story (and the video clearly shows the count is 0-1).  So everyone wants to trade him now.  That's not my reaction: it's time to fire Martinez.

Except that this isn't on Martinez. This group of players has been caught doing this before. But in the past, they were simply so talented and healthy that it didn't matter. Now it matters.

If you think this wouldn't have happened with Dusty or Johnson, you're very, very wrong.

I got to agree. The attitude and fit throwing isn’t new to this team in 2018.

As a matter of fact, all the problems that this team has shown isn’t new to 2018.

Perhaps that’s why I am optimistic. Same team as years past, same problems, but they’ve overcome them. Idk

You're just delusional.

Same problems that they won't overcome. Rizzo needs to be lining up deals right now.

Yes, it definitely would not have happened with Dusty or Davey.  It's reminiscent of Matt.

I may very well be. But the plus is I am still having fun as a fan this season. It’s like sitting in church crap faced and everyone else is sober.

:lmao:

It was happening with Dusty. But the division was so terrible that it didn't matter. Go back through the "Fire Dusty" thread. Plenty of people complaining about lack of heart, lack of effort, lack of smart baseball. Particularly about baserunning.

like I said, very, very wrong.

Gary Sanchez might be available, and he'd be a perfect fit for this team.

Poor defense. Home runs. And strikes out a lot. Definitely he would fit in!

I've seen a lot of Gary Sanchez over the last three years. I don't think his defense is poor. It's lazy. He's good at the defensive things he wants to be good at, like gunning down runners.

The funny part is that Turner is a guy whose game relies on hustle- a power hitter can loaf it to first on occasion, but a singles hitter whose value is on the base paths is worthless without hustle

The problem is that Turner believes he can hit for power. He doesn't generate the bat speed to do it, so he tries to cheat with his swing. His natural swing brings line drives. When he starts swinging for the fences, he becomes a fly ball hitter. His increase in fly ball (particularly infield fly balls) percentage bears this out. Saw the same thing his last year at NC State as well. It's certainly correctable, but judging by his display last night, he doesn't seem to want to put in the work.

Anyway, deal him. It's time to get fresh blood in here. Deal anyone with a deal ending this year. Play Taylor every day. Buy out Zimmerman and move Soto to first base. Deal Turner for a package involving at least one top tier pitching prospect.

I ask this question seriously? Is there any player on the Nats that a majority of WNFF likes? I mean I would have guessed Murphy and Eaton, but people here even turned on them when they were slow to come back from injury. Is there any player that has built up enough good will that they could have a slump or make a mistake and not have people here calling for their benching? I actually can't think of anyone...

Various people here have various complaints against Turner.  Argues too many called strikes.  Tries to hit for power. Doesn't want to put in the work. (Neither of the first two  bothers me and the third is absurd.)  But before last night I have never seen any lack of hustle from him, he's one of the most energetic players on the team.  That's why I think there's something seriously wrong and that it's more a reflection on Martinez than on Turner.  Bringing up Harper's behavior over the past four years completely misses the point.  Harper is a totally different breed of human.
