Excellent Mattionals  ....  something special.    Well written and rational.

Hey, I had to learn too. After really learning the heritage here was only when I started to get it. The "Great American Sport" and the history of someone like Walter Johnson and the 24 Nats/Senators is what makes me love the game.

Can he handle the bullpen? Because that's Matt's greatest flaw right now.

Dunno, but on the 20th anniversary, I read an anecdote wherein he called a mound conference and told the battery he was calling the pitches for the next hitter. He'd signal to the catcher before each pitch. Got the guy out. Apparently the guy who told that story (the second basemen) ended up on another team, struck out years later, and had Cal lean in as he jogged in and whisper "Guess who called that sequence?" If I'm going to have a legendary infielder with not much experience, I want one who spent his whole career thinking.

The other thing I hope for is if they do make a managerial change, that they clean house. It's just time to move on from all of these guys and get a totally new look. The only one I'd feel bad losing is Knorr.

Knorr and the base coaches can stay. Only Cat, Sciu, and Weiter-whatever his name is need to go.

Tony Torasco and Bob "sendley" need to stay. Love those guys.

Jose Vidro was a 3 time all-star, runs a baseball academy in Puerto Rico, and frankly his hiring would go a long way towards rebuilding the fractured relationship with the fans here in Montreal.

I'm an enormous Expos fan, as are about ten or twenty of us on the board. I'll give you a tip: nobody else here cares about the Expos.

Ripken can't give anybody any experience until someone gives him a shot at managing.

Low A sounds about right.

Dave Martinez is always the bridesmaid never the bride. He's interviewed for and been passed on by the White Sox, Astros, Cubs, Nats, and even the Rays where he had been coaching for years.

Getting Joe Maddon's coffee is hardly a qualification. Was Dave Martinez ever an all-star?

Jose Vidro is one of the franchise's all-time greats.

Dave Martinez named his son Jagger, after the English musician Chris Jagger. He doesn't strike me as a leader of men.

You know who else was passed over multiple times before getting a chance? Felipé Alou.

Also...he's Latino!

Some Spanish guy coined the original phrase.   Did Canada also invent the electric light bulb?

No but think of us when you zip up your pants.

FP would probably make a great manager.

Ripken is unwilling to  put in the required work to learn to manage - i.e. manage at the minor league level.  He thinks he's owed a shot to manage straight at the MLB level.  So freak him.

He's probably right. He probably will get a chance. Maybe a little AFL action and he's in.

I was only half joking.    As some point, I think he would make a good manager.

Low A sounds about right.

Sandberg started in A ball, spent 5 years in the minors before getting promoted to be a third base coach and eventually an interim manager before getting the job full time- not sure why Ripken should be any different

Look, I understand being an Expos fan, since I am one. Just understand something about the Nationals. Outside of being relocated from Montreal, this team from top to bottom would much rather share its roots with the city of Washington D.C. than Montreal. It has been 10 years and there hasn't been one throwback Expos game. Not one. The ring of honor has more Washington players on it than Expos players. The bronze statues, say what you will about them, are all of ex Washington players. This team is aligned with it's city, and it's city's baseball heritage. I feel for you, but after Desmond is gone, there won't be any player that ever was an "OG Expo" left in the organization. If you came here to be a fan of a Montreal team, I'm afraid this isn't the place. Although my fan heritage of the Expos has led me here, I am a Nationals fan now, and even if a new team lands in Montreal, I won't be following.

Most here were fans of the old Nats teams of the 60s and 70s, or became fans when the team moved here and had nothing to do with the Expos.[...]

I got started on baseball with Senators II in 1963 (attended first RFK match that year, during a prior residency in this area)...but completely unaware of what would eventually transpire, I went up to Montreal for five baseball trips between 1994-2000 (I speak and read French fairly well) and had a fairly good time amid increasing empty patches in the seats (but $22 for club seats with food/drinks served at your seat!)...which should give one some idea of how desperate I was for baseball during that pre-2005 interregnum.

Siri would be good.  Siri, Max has given up four runs and they are hitting line drives all over the park. We have two runners on. Should I pinch hit for him?

Why?  Would save money and be more effective than MW. If Siri is not good enough we can go with IBM Watson.

I don't know what that is but would take it over Matt. I would take a ouija board over Matt.
