That's the problem. Anyone who has MLB experience also has been fired by at least one team. Here's who's available off the top of my head:

Jim Riggleman
Manny Acta
Davey Johnson

None of those really impress me.

one of these 3 should do just fine

If Matt Williams does get fired who do you guys want us to sign as his replacement? I would love Maddon but we are a year to late.

See my avatar.  Get his protégé, the man who has been learning from the best for years-Dave Martinez :woop:

Dave Martinez was. Join Skippy and I. Martinez has been learning from, and I don't think anyone can really argue this anymore, the best manager in baseball since 2008, and as a Spring Instructor with him since 2006. He is the guy who does all the crazy defensive positioning for the Rays and now Cubs. He also does baserunning and bunting, two things DESPERATELY needing work with this group of Nats.

MW obviously isn't working. I read somewhere (Boz?) that ownership wanted him fired a month ago, and that players don't really work well with him. It's time to move on from Rizzo's "guy" and move to someone more capable. If that unfortunately means the end of Rizzo, then I guess it's time to move on as well. As long as the Nats can keep the other strong executives that have helped build the farm, then the Nats should be ok. I'm not willing to give up on Rizzo, but if he can't fire Williams because he believes in him too much, then he needs to go. One way or another, we will find out if it's poor managing, poor performance, or both.

Cal Ripken Jr.

Why the hell not. Him, or Dave, would be something different. Bo Porter is still around, too.

Then who would you want thats out there?

Dave Martinez is the best name I've seen mentioned so far.  Bud Black might not be bad: he managed to get a pretty decent run of results out of a succession of teams with very little talent, and he was a good pitching coach before that.  My main point was that I'd rather keep Williams than hire Washington.  He's a good coach, but he's that bad of a manager.  He wasted two teams that were every bit as talented as the ones Williams has wasted.

Can he handle the bullpen? Because that's Matt's greatest flaw right now.

I wonder what Jose Vidro is doing these days. I always thought he would make a good manager.

I don't think anyone can handle this bullpen - it's not that good.

I like Cal Ripken, Jr.

Bud Black.
Jim Riggleman.

Of all the suggestions in the last 20 or so posts, Bud Black is the only one who makes any sense at all. Not Ripken, Porter, Washington, or Vidro.

You weren't serious about Riggleman were you?

What's wrong with Vidro? There have been several Latino managers who have done just fine.

The other thing I hope for is if they do make a managerial change, that they clean house. It's just time to move on from all of these guys and get a totally new look. The only one I'd feel bad losing is Knorr.

Exactly, I thought it was bizarre they made Williams keep all of the old staff, every manager wants to pick their own staff.

good grief there are several of us pushing for Martinez, if people don't want Vidro I doubt it has anything to do with him being Latino :smh:

Did you know that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory? Jose Vidro is a U.S. citizen.

Black jumps off that list.  I'd look into Lovullo if the Sox bring back Farrell (They have lost one series since Lovullo took over).  If we went the Kevin Cash route, then I'd definitely be in on Alex Cora.  I'd think about giving Ryno a second shot, and maybe Mike Redmond.  Dave Martinez, of course, and I'd look into anyone who has worked with Buck.  Any chance Tony Pena would like to manage again?  He's your catcher

Is this a rhetorical question?   I guess I'm missing the point.

Well he never officially retired so of all the options mentioned, he's the only who could be a player/manager.

Did you know that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory? Jose Vidro is a U.S. citizen.

I'm sure most people knew both those facts.  Matt Williams is also a U.S. citizen, and he's a bad manager; Manny Acta isn't a U.S. citizen, and he is also a bad manager.  So now that we've established that being a U.S. citizen doesn't seem to matter much in the small sample size of recent bad Nationals managers, can you explain what suggests Jose Vidro would make a better manager than any other random player who was a good hitter a decade ago?

Well he never officially retired so of all the options mentioned, he's the only who could be a player/manager.

:hysterical: He's 41, was a terrible second baseman defensively in 2006 (10 years ago next season), and hasn't played since getting cut by the Mariners in 2008.
