Everytime I hear about Williams being Manager of the Year in 2014 and a complete bust in 2015, I think of Jack Pardee.  He was coach of the year 1979 and a complete bust 1980 (and fired after the season). Fact is, Pardee was good in 1979 and stunk in 1980.   I think Williams was good in 2014 and stinks in 2015.  It isn't that strange.  Managers/coaches have different strengths and any one of them can excel in one situation and stink in another.

Jon Heyman says Nats owners considered firing Williams a few weeks ago.  http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25290228/inside-baseball-managerial-heat-in-nl-east-especially-in-washington

While Rizzo apparently has remained a staunch booster of his hand-picked choice of manager out of almost nowhere from their Diamondbacks days, it is a chorus of one at this point.

It's articles like that that give me hope MW will be gone after this year barring some sort of uncharacteristic (for this season) run over the next month. I don't think it'll be Rizzo's decision. And me might choose to go with him, that wouldn't shock me if that happened, too.

Shouldn't the GM have the final say over his own manager? Rizzo better change his tune fast.

Well, yes and no. Ultimately, the owner gets the final say if they've got a strong enough distaste for what's happening. I don't think that's uncommon. Ideally, the Owners and GM would be on the same page philosophically, and I think in large part, they are, but I could see a serious fissure develop on this topic.

he who hesitates has losses.

I'm a diehard Nats' fan.   I believe and want them to win it all.   On the other hand, I think it's time for Williams to go.    If we win it all, Williams will stay.   If we don't, Williams may go.

If we win it all this year, he deserves to stay.

If he can pull that rabbit out of a hat I'd give him next year and another option year!

The rabbit will appear despite him  ....   or he could be Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.   :)

He wasn't good in 2014.  He was the benefactor of circumstance.

It shows us how good the 2014 team was.   It took Williams 'til the playoffs to f*** it up.

The Matt Williams' Special: Take out lefty Felipe Rivero (.250 BAA, .549 OPS vs lefties) for righty Drew Storen (.282 BAA, .682 OPS vs lefties) with a series of hot lefties due up, including one of the most dangerous in the game, Freddie Freeman.

Even in a tie game or trailing using his best pitchers, even with all this beautiful urgency removing Tanner early, there's still the boneheadedness. If we had had Buck or Bochy this year we would be ten games up...and if we had 'em last year we would have won the World Series, if Bruce could do that with the crappile that was the Giants imagine what he could do with us.

Whatever the pitcher's spot was up and Storen should be able to handle that spot. No objections.

Storen has shown time and time again he can not handle lefties anything like he handles righties, especially lefty after lefty. And when they get hits, they're big ones. With Felipe killing it and the game headed for extras I'm almost inclined to leave him in there. If not, Solis and Grace are there for the lefties, I'm probably forgetting somebody (Thornton obviously already used) hopefully they don't let one get to second base, then you can bring in Storen for the righties.

But noooo, Storen is our 8th inning guy.

Not the worst argument, but as Bob pointed out, FF was career 0/11 going into that AB. I'll take 0/11 history with a closer over a LH rookie.

I'd fired MW even if he won the world series.
