I'd fired MW even if he won the world series.

They won, therefore he's a good manager! :smh:

Hypothetically if they won, I'd say they won in SPITE of MW and not because of him. Fire him.

Credit where it's due: He managed very well tonight, in my eyes.

I still don't think he's a good manager, but I think he put players in the right places and pulled plugs at the right times.

Yup. Torch is on him.

He read that he doesn't have to hold Pap back just because he's down a run.

No gum in the interview today.  He only does that when he feels defensive?

Disagree. Storen never should have been in the game to face Freeman and AJ. Storen in the 8th inning has been a disaster.

Agreed. Facing extra lefties is what Sammy Solis is called up for.

Updated since last night;

Sammy Solis vs Lefties: .278/.263/.278
Drew Storen vs Lefties: .290/.347/.355

BAA is slightly better, OPB is much better, and so is slugging. I don't care if Solis is a rookie who gives up big hits to righties, don't let him face 'em. Small sample size my ass. Over a large sample size Drew Storen has shown he can give up big hits to lefties and is much, much worse against them than he is against righties where he's almost untouchable. I'd rather gamble on the unknown rookie who thus far has been good, than continue to trot out Drew to get rocked by lefties when I don't have to. Bring him in immediately after FF and AJP and then let him pitch the 9th too, the Braves don't really have any dangerous lefties outside of those two that I can recall. Death to this "8th inning guy" stuff.

However, I will give him all the credit in the world for getting Roark for when he did and leaving Pap in for two innings, lately he has been managing with so much urgency it's been great, I mean we would usually be cheering seeing Storen come into tie games, it's just the wrong spots he's been picking. Someone just needs to get him a freaking smartphone so he can check Baseball Reference real quick mid-game.

Freeman was a career 0/11 against Storen going into that game.  Considering what a Nats killer that guy is, Williams was right to test that matchup.

He had Desmond bunt. He's finally learning.
But he had him bunt with two strikes. i thought that was just plain dumb.

Uses our top four relievers (one for more than an inning) to secure a four run lead? And if we need those guys to pitch their third day in a row on Wednesday?

MW still trots Storen out there with less than a double digit lead.  WTF is he thinking?

It's almost as if a change in at the helm might be propitious.

Max needs to be better than this.  He is the ace lined up for this series.  He just didn't get it done.  Again.

You know what, I don't even blame him anymore. It's obvious that the players simply don't give a crap.

The players want to win no doubt, the role of the manager is to get them collectively into a position to win.  Mattie fails here miserably; he has no clue who to play beyond his etch-sketch approach to substitutions

Casey Jansen has been an epic fails for awhile now, ERA ~5 and against David Wright, fresh meat
