It just shows he needs (and deserves) a chance to play regularly

I don't think playing  MAT in CF and hitting him 8th is going to kill this team.  The defense is pretty good, the occasional power is nice.  It is very close to being like carrying Danny Espinosa, except in CF rather than SS.  I think it was HattoriHanzo who clamored for Turner at SS and a real CF like Taylor down the stretch last year, rather than the Espinosa / Turner combo.  If Taylor and Turner field well, fine.

I'd love to see Taylor develop into a guy who keeps his Ks <25%, draws a few walks, and keeps the power.  I doubt it happens and I think something like a Cain / Herrera deal should happen to backfill for Eaton this year and to give us a better bullpen for this year and next.  Short of that, Taylor or Goodwin is what we go with.

I don't even want to like him anymore.  After that bunt, I want him the freak off the team.

so, realistically, we are happy with any OPS above .700 no? obviously not elite production but that is what happens when your starting CF goes down for the season. good defense in cf, steal some bases, hit some HRs, solid backup CF?

No. He's going to hit a homerun now and then, but the rest of the time he's a huge hole in the lineup.

He's at .267/ .300/ .427/ .727 now, which would be a career high should he sustain it.  Which is doubtful, but he's only 26 and could improve some perhaps.

Since Eaton's injury, he is at .333/.368/.526.  Unsustainable, but it's been nice while it lasted.  I hope his strikeout rate for that period is also unsustainable -- 37%.

I would be more than satisfied if he could wind up the season with a league average slash line and at least a slight decrease in strikeouts.

With Taylor, it is less about regularly playing time and more about continued maturity at the plate. In recent games, he seems to be making some adjustments to go with the pitch and taking singles as opposed to the Desmond like swing for the fences hack regardless of pitch or situation.

Still think he is a mess in CF, so long term not sure where he fits. But if he can continue to focus on getting on base, he will find a spot.

I thought his defense was generally regarded as pretty good.

Depends on what you look at and what you value. A lot of metrics seem to value range more than fielding percentage. Also have to factor in the arm. He's good enough to be a backup/defensive replacement.
