Nats got Darrold Knowles, Washington's first serious relief pitcher after Firpo Marberry in the '20s and early '30s. By 1968, Nats had Del Unser in CF, and Unser helped the Phillies win a World Series.
Darrold Knowles was good as I recall but that was in my younger days.  Loved Unser--part time guy and pinch hitter by 1980--had several key hits in the post season.

I think Taylor still has a chance; he was really rushed up to soon and shows what can happen to many guys without enough minor league at bats.

He had some really good years with Washington in his 16 season career.

Here's one you don't see much - in 1970 for the Nats he appeared in 71 games, pitched a career high 119.1 innings had an ERA of 2.04, and his record was 2-14.

Ray would say he should know when he comes in the game behind 5-1 that he needs to hold the other team to -4 or less.

You don't get a loss when you come into a game down 4...

He was really good.  I remembered Knowles being an All Star, so I looked it up.  He was in 1969.  (So this  :old: hasn't lost all his marbles yet).

Incidentally, as a reliever with the A's in 1973, he was the only pitcher in history to pitch in all seven World Series games.  (He saved two games).

Not a winner.

I'd love to see his run support.

Either no run support, or he always went 5 and his bullpen sucked.

Dick Hyde was a "serious" relief pitcher.

Hyde was good in 1958. I know he wore glasses, but can't remember if he was serious or not.

He's hitting .556!  Should we send Eaton to Syracuse?  Release Werth?  Trade Bryce early?

If he's still hitting over. 500 in July, trade him for a closer at the deadline.

Solano hitting .833
We can unload Wieters and Severino for a closer. Wake up Rizzo, make it happen!

Taylor have a good game? Sorry, been swamped at work. He just needs to make more contact, that simple.

Hit another dinger, plus a 2-run single, and another single and SB.

Didn't he do this to us last year?

I like Michael Taylor. I think he'd do well playing every day for a non-contender.

Yep.  He kills spring training pitching.  I didn't see him today but I saw his walkoff homerun yesterday; it was a very wide swing.  He's not going to hit many of those against real major league pitching once the season starts.  His swing does play well in AAA though.

Can we puhleeze end the Michael A Taylor Experience?  He will never hit.  Let's just move on.   1 hit in 17 AB's is enough.

Goodwin isn't off to the greatest start, but he's drawing walks and has his OBP at .345.  Maybe it is time for the swap out?  I think they need a 5th OF if Heisey is the primary RH pinch hitter.
