Nats got Darrold Knowles, Washington's first serious relief pitcher after Firpo Marberry in the '20s and early '30s. By 1968, Nats had Del Unser in CF, and Unser helped the Phillies win a World Series.
Darrold Knowles was good as I recall but that was in my younger days.
He had some really good years with Washington in his 16 season career. Here's one you don't see much - in 1970 for the Nats he appeared in 71 games, pitched a career high 119.1 innings had an ERA of 2.04, and his record was 2-14. All you W-L lovers out there, suck a root.http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/knowlda01.shtml
Not clutch...
Ray would say he should know when he comes in the game behind 5-1 that he needs to hold the other team to -4 or less.
Not a winner.

Hit another dinger, plus a 2-run single, and another single and SB.
Didn't he do this to us last year?
