If we loose Tex, I can understand that, but if we loose Tex and then the Angles get Dunn, I'll be pissed
Absolutely! For all his deficiencies, Dunn represents the best
realistic chance to improve our offense in the next few years: the Nats have few position player prospects (as opposed to pitchers) to get excited about and the ones they have are Low-A/A. And, of course, they're
prospects. Dukes has potential and has shown flashes. Then again, his potential and flashes also include violations of the Florida Criminal Code.

Without a
real clean-up hitter, the Nats will continue to hit Zim third or fourth, instead of fifth or sixth; he will continue to press and he will not fulfill his promise. Without a real clean-up hitter, the Nats have to hope that everyone -- and I mean everyone -- stays healthy or they risk another stinker like last year and permanent afterthought status here in DC.
I know: it's over the top and Dunn is hardly a baseball messiah but last year was almost unbearable. The AAAA lineups almost killed my love of the game, which was previously thought impossible. They were arguably the worst-hitting team I've ever cheered for and as someone who grew up rooting for the Mets of Ed Kranepool, Ed Charles, Bud Harrelson and Ron Swoboda, that's saying a lot. Our second basemen made Felix Millan look like Rogers Hornsby and Pete Orr. Oy! Peter effin' Orr.
