LOL -- short term memory-itis of the os fans -- i guess they've forgotten their 12 losing seasons, their playing the same division as the evil empire, their evil twin, the young and seemingly perennial contender Rays and the vastly improved blue jays, their non existent starting rotation, their suspect bullpen, their empty ballpark, their horrendous owner - bwak ...wow

I mean who's to say that the Nats will be competitive next year or in 5 years -- but it's not like the os are in a better position than we are at this point ...

If he hasn't jumped on this offer then he clearly doesn't want to play for the Nats and is delaying in hopes of getting the team he wants to play for to match the numbers.
I feel that way too. If he was going to sign here it would have already happened.

Found this gem on Orioles Hangout:

Quote
Honestly, who do the Bugs have besides Ryan Zimmerman (who is seemingly injury-prone)? Lastings Milledge? Elijah Dukes? C'mon! We have Markakis, Roberts, Adam Jones, MATT WIETERS (who shares Boras AND attended Tex's alma mater), not to mention our pitchers (Tillman, Matusz, Arrieta, Patton, Guthrie, etc.) We are SO much closer to contention than the Bugs it's absurd!! Not to mention the best fans AND ballpark in all of baseball (The New Yankee Stadium be damned)...

Who the freak are the Bugs? Zimmerman injury prone? Best fans and ballpark in baseball?

Not necessarily true. It's a good business move to wait and see if you can get more money. Isn't that what just happened? It could happen again...and then again.

Tex got himself in a mess. We have clearly the best offer on the table but we we're always intended to be used to up offers from other teams. However right now it appears none of the other teams want to match our offer. So Tex is almost certainly going to go somewhere else for less money unless he decides to say freak it and come here.

They mean us as in gnats. They are about as clueless as AZ. For some reason they still cling to the stupidity that they have the best stadium in baseball. Like that would really count for anything, even if it were true.

If the Nats had any balls and felt that this jerk was only using them to get other teams to raise the price they would withdraw their offer and redirect that money towards other players and tell him to go freak himself.

Then so be it - the Nats can only control what they do and what they offer -- if they have the best deal on the table by far and tex chooses to go somewhere else -- then it is what it is -- regardless -- I'm very impressed with the Lerner's and their efforts in this endeavor -- no matter where tex ends up -- it bodes well for our future ...

Im hoping that this is the new side of them. This is fantastic, i just hope that Tex makes the right decision and doesn't do what the majority believe (go to a winner).

Frankly if the Nats are high bid, I have even more confidence that Tex is coming here. I'll repeat, Peter Angelos will not allow the player that he has been wanting since he lost him in the draft to the Rangers, sign with the club that has been the bane of his existance since MLB forced it upon him...

Screw him- if our money isn't good enough go play in Baltimore for 30 million less. Enjoy fourth place in your division.

What a moron!

If Tex signs with the Nats, I am not really interested in the press conference, but I am really interested in the first day of spring training.

Do they hire someone to keep Elijah Dukes 25 yards away from him at all time?

Will he be upset when he sees the weight room is 3 bowflexs and a stationary bike.

How long before Tex loses his even-keel nature, and goes Ryan Leaf on poor Austin Kearns in the locker room.

Isn't it widely agreed that if the Nats were going to win this sweepstakes they'd have to offer the most by far? Why would the Nats tell them to freak off under those circumstances -- it appears that the Nats were sincere when they said he was their first priority -- the payroll is paltry as it is -- what does it matter ultimately in the end if they're driving up the price for someone else if they're willing to spend the money regardless?

Just remember, they have the best fans even if they are wearing Sox and Yankees Jerseys when they come to Camden - the best park in baseball circa 1995.

If/When Tex signs here, you know he is going to say all the right things.

"I think the team is making a lot of progress, and the new owners are committed to winning. I want to be a franchise player, and lead this team to a division title. I'm very happy to be with the Nationals, and look forward to a successful season."

I couldn't have said this any better

Quote
JTrea, your optimism has been remarkable, but its time to let it go. Not only are we not getting Tex, but this is now gonna be the ultimate slap in the face, screw you that he could EVER imagine.

It wasn't bad enough that MLB moved a franchise into the Orioles backyard at the angst and argument of Angelos.

Its not bad enough that after 11 straight losing seasons, we can't get top talent to come here.

Its not bad enough that we play in the division with the two teams who spend a combined $400+ million in payroll, and a third team who just went to the World Series.

Its not bad enough that our attendance has dropped below 2 million for the first time since moving to OPACY.

But now, the hometown boy, the guy we all depended on to help turn the franchise back around, is going to the enemy, the pain in the arse neoghbor who moved in next door, took away our friends, has loud barking dogs all night long, and he goes to play for them, laughing at us as he goes.

If this is true, then I say enjoy oyur money Tex. You are no better than any of the other paid mercenaries in MLB!
