Jack Black was never funny.

You didn't watch The Holiday.

Jack Black was never funny.

Tenacious D, as a band, well, everything except their last movie, was hilarious. School of Rock was funny. Tropic Thunder? He was excellent in that film. Yes, he's certainly had his share of moronic bombs. But he's also had some great flicks. Certainly nothing as bad as this Gulliver's Travels looks. Like I said, judging by the previews and the fact the studio delayed it by so long, we could have a film that makes Battlefield Earth look like an Oscar nominee.

Seriously though, Jack Black *can* be very funny, but his crap:good ratio is so bad that you'd never know it.  Dude needs a better agent.

More proof that people don't read

Actually I enjoyed that too.

You didn't watch The Holiday.

Nope sure didn't.

Tropic Thunder

Also very funny, but he definitely did not carry that film or even place in the top 3 funniest roles IMO.

Tenacious D

Saw the movie, can't remember if I thought it was funny or not.

What was wrong with Battlefield Earth?  I think I saw that when I was younger and enjoyed it as a campy sci fi movie.  Isn't it basically what scientologists believe in?

It's generally considered the worst movie of all time.

Um, not by people who have seen The Room*, Weasels Rip My Flesh, or ... well okay maybe it is worse than Howard the Duck in the "actually backed by money" category.

*Although I feel bad mentioning The Room because saying "The Room is a bad movie" is like saying "Casablanca is a good movie." That film just demolishes every aspect of the bad-movie world and charts an infinite universe of new badness, cosmically deep in its ineptitude. It is the Beethoven's Ninth of bad movies. It occupies a genre, a space, a category all of its own, which no-one will ever be able to match.

Jack Black is great as a voice actor.

Kung Fu Panda, he was great in. he should do animation more often.

Yep, this. My understanding is most feel it's a tossup between Battlefield Earth and Manos, Hand of Fate. Given the scientology link, and Travolta, I'll always be preferable to BE as the worst of all time.

Yes, the previews for it look spectacular. That, plus Olivia Wilde? And all in 3D? Honestly, a film like this is why 3D was created. It should look freaking insane in 3D. And this all coming from someone who has never seen the original. Definitely going to be the best theatre experience since Avatar. Hopefully the story holds up to all the obvious positives, but even if it doesn't, 3D plus Olivia Wilde is worth the price of admission.

She's not all that 3D though.

Too obvious.

Still, I think I might go with The Room just because the badness of that film shows a unique sort of premeditated determination. Tommy Wiseau and Ed Wood are the only directors, I think, who ever worked so long, so hard, and for so many years, involving themselves in so many aspects of the film's production, investing all that effort to make their films be as bad as possible. But Wiseau had to concentrate all his misguided powers on one masterwork where Wood could spread his over several.

I'll have to check out The Room the next time E Street Cinema plays it at midnight.
