I agree, but when I watch it now, it is 2010 and in 2010 it's a little funny

It's a lot funny in 2010.

Date Night.

Not a complete waste of time.  Actually kind of fun.  The car wreck/chase scene was worth the rental.

Glad to hear it. I was afraid that it would be a waste of time.

I did get a leaked PDF of the script like a year before it came out, so that's cool.

In early fan chatter, the current fan favorite to play Roland Deschain seems to be Viggo Mortensen.

thoughts?

is Roland even castable?

Viggo seems like about as good an option as you'll find for a role like that.  Maybe take a flier on someone like Javier Bardem.

i've seen Daniel Craig suggested as well.

problem is, the actor would have to commit to a LONG stretch of work, and would have to be willing to do TV also.  I can't imagine that he'd have time for other projects while The Dark Tower is filming.

I do know this - Alan Rickman MUST be the voice of Blaine the Mono. period.

Survival of the Dead is a good movie, and it features the best zombie kills I have ever seen.

Survival of the Dead was an excellent film. I'd dare say the best zombie film of the past decade. The daughter and her zombified sister was chilling, the plot was excellent... Romero's past couple, particularly his one before this, were lacking. This was an incredible movie.

Dawn of the Dead.

Gold standard of 2000's zombie films.

Dawn of the Dead.

Gold standard of 2000's zombie films.

Can't agree there. Survival of the Dead was a far better film. I wasn't as keen on Dawn of the Dead as many, but even objectively, Survival of the Dead was better. DotS had a massive budget, and that is mainly what worked in it's favor. First, it was a remake. That has to take some points away for originality. Secondly, the original DotD was vastly superior. The original focused on the idea that "the world ended, we are stuck in a mall. What would you do?" The remake totally lost the idea of crazy galavanting fun alone in a mall. That was the entire appeal of the movie, which I loved years before the remake came out. They lock themselves in an office, and go adventuring in a deserted mall. The remake just didn't capturer that. It was more of a zombie survival flick, and not the fun of "society is over, let's go nuts."

I'd say the original DotD beats Survival of the Dead hands down, but Survival beats the remake by a good margin. Just a better story, even if the budget and effects are dramatically lower. Romero just knows how to capture telling a story in an end of the world situation that no one else can, even when they remake his movies.

The Last Airbender was not so bad on DVD, maybe the 3D was distracting, maybe it was the similiarities to a kung fu movie I really like called the Storm Riders, either way, it was fine.

The Expendables is too slow paced.

Watched Unstoppable today.  Way better than I thought it would be.  At the very least bump this to the top of your rental/on demand list.  Very well done with such a seemingly limited concept.

I recall mentioning how Yogi Bear looked like one of the more moronic films of the decade. I retract that. The past few days, ads started airing for Jack Blacks new Gulliver's Travels films. Holy crap does that look Battlefield Earth bad. I read up a little bit, and the film was all set to go for a July release. Apparently it was so awful, even by the movie studio's standards, that they delayed it by five months despite being finished because they expect it to tank. It really, really looks like it's going to be a historically horrible movie.

What happened, Jack Black? You used to be funny. Even worse, Jason Segal is in this. His career seemed a certainty to take off like a rocket after Sarah Marshall. This is the type of movie that kills young film careers. If you think I'm exaggerating, take a look at a trailer for this piece of junk. It's so bad they can't even find 30 seconds of clips to make it look even remotely watchable.

I didn't know I had any money left in that bank ;)

Seriously though, Jack Black *can* be very funny, but his crap:good ratio is so bad that you'd never know it.  Dude needs a better agent.

Saving Silverman got an F from Entertainment Weekly and it's one of my favorites. Seriously, though, the Tenacious D tv series was sublime.
