Voukon was impassable, but that is no excuse...dreadful blue line passing coughed up two goals...

Yeah, this was a pretty bad game. Hopefully we can figure something out for the game against the Lightning tomorrow.

Must Win game, period.

it would be nice to win, but this is not must win. there are 20+ games left and at worst we'd be like a game back.  i would still watch it very intently.  another mini hot streak of 3 wins and this will all be forgotten.

Caps did seem to catch a break with Brind Amour going down. That really weakend CAR

Kolzig is at his best tonight. Hopefully he can keep this up. The O needs to step it up, though.

Big win.  Almost blew it but Semin came right back and gave us the lead.  Kolzig was absolutely marvelous.

GREAT MOVE BY BOUDREAU ON HIS CALL OF A TIMEOUT AFTER THE FLORIDIANS HAD US DEMORALIZED WITH THOSE TWO QUICK GOALS.

I like the way he justifies what he does as "coaches' decision"...Hanlon was thoughtful, cerebral, and fair to a fault, and yet ineffective as a hockey coach (at least with this team).  I would vote for Hanlon for just about any political position, because he has a very rare combination of qualities that most of the craps we are forced to vote for do not have, but for some reason, Hanlon could not get that team to do crap.  Seriously good guy, wrong place, wrong time.

LOTS OF TRUE IN THAT....HOWEVER, A COACH HAS TO RIDE HERD, ESPECIALLY IN HOCKEY, AND BOUDREAU HAS DONE THAT. I AM QUITE SURE THAT HANLON IS A HELLUVA NICE GUY. . . NICE GUYS FINISH LAST....I WONDER HOW HE CAN COACH A TEAM WITHOUT KNOWING THE LANGUAGE.

Semin's on a roll right now. Hopefully the rest of the offense turns it back on here soon, too.

That was the first time I've seen Sasha #2 (Semin) get into fisticuffs with anyone.  Good tending on both sides, and (much as I hate their fans), the Isles are a pretty classy team (at least when Simon is serving his usual 6 month suspension for disembowelling the milkman).

This team is freaking done.  What a choke job.  Kolzig is freaking worthless.  How in the hell do you get shut out at home for 2 whole periods??  I was even going to be pissed even if we pulled it off in OT/SO.  This is one we absolutely needed to win in regulation, especially after going up 2-0.  We should have kept firing and put up 5-6 goals.

Nospin, have you not already gathered by now this is the type of sports fan he is?  He whines when a team loses, he worships when they win.  If the team doesn't go undefeated all season they are a failure in his mind.  Just let him go.

Ovechkin hit two posts in the third, one in the SO. The Post says he hit 4 posts. I didnt see the whole game.  Semin's almost wraparound in OT was a great save.

I think you need to start putting your money where your mouth is and when you say a team is done, stop watching

I still watch but this team has will not make the playoffs.  Teams that blow 2-0 leads at home against a team they are fighting for the playoffs with for will not make the playoffs.  Ovechkin is in a slump and when he doesn't score we generally lose, it's that simple.  It doesn't help that our goalies suck.  When you watch other teams around the league you see goalies win games for their teams. You could make the case that Dipietro won the game for the Islanders last night; he made many huge saves late in the game.  Our goalies lose us games.

The posts got hit like 10 times...it was pretty amazing (ping! ping! ping!!).  Guerin hit the post a couple of times right at the end of the game, which was a good thing.

If you honestly think that because Olie lost the game for the Caps last night, I don't know what to say. You're the most negative person I've ever encountered on a message board. Olie played well last night. It's not his fault the team couldn't bury their chances. That's the way the game goes sometimes, but unfortunately it happens to a young team like us a lot.

Brooks Laich said it best when he said he wasn't sure if the team had the killer mentality.

Olie greatly contributed to the loss although he wasn't the only culprit.  He let in a very weak deflection that tied the game and sent it into OT.  He also rolled over in the shootout which is pretty much to be expected.  However, there is no excuse for the Caps quitting after the first period though.  They deserve an equal amount of blame.

Like I said, this team is done.  Kolzig is terrible along with our piss poor defense.  The majority of Carolina's goals were garbage rebounds in front of the net.  Very poor game by the Caps.  Now 6 points behind Carolina.  This team just can't handle the big boys in the Southeast division.  It was a fun ride while it lasted though.
