Awesome! I'm ready for the first season I've ever paid attention to! There's gotta be something to it, right?

Ali and I went to the pre-season game against the Senators last Sunday and had a blast. Maybe between the MLS cup and hockey we'll survive until spring comes!

Maybe someone would be interested in hooking up to go to a Caps game? I know Ali has already checked out the schedule and has some ideas about what games we're going to try to go to....especially the Canadian teams...anyone interested?

E: I would love to go but with my cataract it would be difficult to follow the flow of the game. night games are out of the question and day games might interfere with Redskins. I will try to get together with you all at some point during the season.

We would love to see you, but you're right, maybe a hockey game isn't the best thing for you. We both commented on how loud the one on Sunday was, not the crowd particularly, but the announcer and music. Maybe it's because we were sitting so close and we're used to nosebleeds. But you might not appreciate that either...

ANOTHER HANDICAP IS MY FREQUEN T  TRIPS TO THE LADIES ROOM. AT LEAST AT HOME I CAN FOLLOW THE GAME BETTER, EXCEPT FOR THE ATMOSPHERE. MY ATMOSPHERE WHEN WATCHING A SPORTING EVENT ON TV IS THAT NO VISITORS ALLOWED IN MY ROOM INCLUDING MY JACK RUSSELL.

GREAT 1st game by the Caps as they dominate Atlanta 3-1.  I haven't seen them play this well in years.

Great start! Defense looks a lot better...compared to what I had heard about last season, that is. I really like that Nylander guy.

It's such an improvement over last year...between Poti, Nylander, and Backstrom, Ovie and Semin can be spread across lines now.  Can't wait to thump the NY Rangers with Nylander scoring after faking out Jagr  :P

The best I can say about last nights game was that it was uneventful. The Caps just had the puck the whole time. No odd man rushes against and none for the Caps because they had the puck the whole time. Not only should the defense itself be improved, but a good offense will take the pressure off them and result in less penalties against and more penalties for.

In baseball, if you improve your offense, thats really the only benefit.  For the Caps it makes all other facets better.

I used to watch Caps games holding my breath waiting to see if the next penalty was going to be for or against them and then hope Olie or Johnson would bail them out if it was against them or hope to at least get a few shots off on the PP if the call was in their favor

The Caps are freaking awesome!!  They have only allowed 1 goal in two games to two legit teams.

The SE Division has won 2 of the last 3 Stanley Cups, and with the new format, they are pretty much all we'll see for significant stretches of the season, so owning Atlanta and the dixie Whalers is a very auspicious start!

Don't forget we've got a Columbus Day matinee today - at NY Islanders, face-off 14.00, airing on CSN and 3WT (the same radio stations that carry the Nationals).
