Good point.  We are now only 3 pts out of the 8th spot.

Laich on Point in Win
Brooks Laich scores two goals and assists on two more Tuesday to lead the Caps to a 4-1 win over the Wild for their first victory in four games.

And aside from re-signing Comrie, the Islanders didn't do dick.  Flyers lost Foppa to the Avs, and the Sabres and everyone else in the middle of the table in the East look shaky.  The Devils disgust me (they play Stalinist hockey that is so oppressive, it's like watching it on a 1965 B&W television), but meh, it wasn't their job to win on our behalf.  At any rate, Dave, you shouldn't have any trouble unloading unwanted tickets...cough cough, wink wink ;-)

This Federov signing is smart on so many levels...on a hockey marketing level, he's comparable to David Beckham.

And I heard Campbell whimpered upon hearing about the trade.

Call me cold-hearted and naive, but I am getting sick and tired of players like him (And Ryan Smyth was the one at last year's deadline) who have been playing hardball for a new contract rejecting offer after offer, and then act shocked and cry like a little girl when the team decides that they want to get something rather than nothing by the deadline.  If you loved playing for that team so much, then why didn't you find a way to get the contract done other than your bloodsucking agent wants a bigger cut of what you get, or that it's an NHLPA directive?

I know players want it both ways; to have their cake and eat it too.  Sorry, even a franchise eventually has to lookout for themselves.

yeah that is such bs. you know what campbell? sign with them in the freaking offseason. i think i remember reading smyth's deal with edmonton didnt get done because of like a million dollars total.

and wtf is with buffalo? are they or are they not a struggling market?  there certainly seem to have lots of jerk fans around here.  i guess it is nice to leave buffalo, but remain true to the team as long as it is winning and better than the local team in the city you moved to.

move back and maybe you guys can keep campbell and briere and drury.

Smyth's deal with the Oilers was over peanuts (way less than a million...like 100,000).  Those were crocodile tears, and now he is out of the smallest and most northern hockey market in the NHL and making it big in America...oh, wait, now he's paid in $USD...ooops, you freaked up Ryan, you could be richer than the Aga Khan right now had you stayed in your crappy little home town, perched on top of the biggest oil shale deposit on earth.   Wah.

Lots of Buffalo fans here...mostly economic refugees with a sprinkling of political carpetbaggers and journos (like Tim Russert).  I guess sticking a snorkle through your roof to survive 6 months of drifting lake effect snow builds lifetime loyalties, though I'd be quite happy if they would all just freak off and go home.

Man BJ is pissed and rightfully so.  He can't even practice with the team and he won't make the trip to NJ tomorrow.  He is the only one of the Caps' 3 goalies that is signed beyond this season.

BTW.  I think Sat night is NATIONAL KIDNEY FOUNDATION NIGHT.  If you buy a ticket thru the foundation some of the proceeds go to Kidney research and helping those with Kidney disease.  I remember getting an email on it earlier this week.  I'll see if I can get a link.

i think the caps must have tried to move johnson but couldnt.

oile's agent is a little upset.  olie has done well for the franchise. throw him a bone and let him play a few home games.

if i was boudreau, i'd go with a strict rotation. play very and well and you get to play again. and OK or good game and you sit until your turn comes up again

Yeah, that's an agent's job to speak for his client.  Not the greatest timing, but oh well when is it ever a good time to biatch about something like this.

I know a lot of fans who will side with Olie mainly because of the years he's been here.  Sentimentality is nice to a point.  All I can say is there's never a good time to make these kind of decisions, especially for someone who's played his entire career here, and has developed quite a following.  But I have to say that it's time for this team to make the hard decision.  Do they want to be a franchise that wants to try to ultimately strive for the ultimate goal, or do they want to make it a retirement resort?

Tonight is a Must win.  It'll be tough but if we want to make the playoffs we have to win games like this.

Huet is starting! And Federov on the 2nd line w/ Semin and Laich. Exciting stuff. Clark is back, too, supposedly.

Regardless of what happens, Huet's style is FAR better than the other two we have. I like the guy already.
