Michael Rucker also cleared waivers and has become a free agent. Four players who ended the season on the 60-day IL (Adon, Cavalli, Gray, Thompson) were reinstated. All of that leaves 36 players on the 40-man roster
Couldn't Vargas still resign with the Nats.
I think they let him find a major league deal, but if he can't, then they sign him to a minor league deal with a non roster invite.
I’d hope baker gets a shot to play the vargas role.
He cannot really play all the positions.
Baker was 7-14 with 2 doubles in his short stint in 2024. He played 2nd, CF, and LF in the minors.
I like him as well, and as 2025 is destined to be yet another disappointing season under dave and his fellow hapless staff regardless, I'd like to see if he can stick...he certainly passed the eye test in the minors...
Per @kileymcd , the Washington Nationals are interested in 3B Alex Bregman
Kiley McDaniel says the Nats are a "a very widely rumored landing spot" for Alex Bregman.https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/42189340/mlb-2024-2025-top-50-free-agents-rankings-contract-projectionsProjected contract is 6 years, $187 million ($31.2M AAV)I assume this means House would shift to 1B?
I would have expected him to be a NYY target so Chisholm can slide to 2nd. I also think the Red Sox could play for him and shift Devers to 1st (maybe making Casas available for pitching or another need).
I think he is absolutely a no go for the Yankees and Dodgers due to the cheating
but he'd be welcome here? In a way, I'd love somebody to sign Bregman and Soto.Wasn't his granddad the Bob Short's lawyer?
I don't think most Nats fans would remember or care.
It was the first thing that came to mind when I read that lol. But yeah, I think most Nats fans are not like us who post on message boards. They won't care or probably won't even know who he is.
Most Nats fans aren't "fans." The only sport in the DC Metro area that anyone cares about is politics. After that, it's simply whoever is winning. Look at the Commanders. 20+ years of crap, but now they sell out with a 7-2 record. Most of the fans showing up to Nats Park are casual fans. And that's fine. But I don't expect them to have the vitriol that folks on here (like me) would have with Bregman.I also don't think his swing would translate well to a neutral park like ours.
Baker was 7-14 with 2 doubles in his short stint in 2024. He played 2nd, CF, and LF in the minors.Maybe Lipscomb gets the shot instead, but Lipscomb absolutely hasn't shown that he can hit in the majors.
I was thinking about that when Santander was being discussed. Any particular hitters you would cite as having a swing that DOES translate well?
