Oh, the Lerners won't pay that for Pivetta. Frankly I wouldn't either.
yes. Bieber should be the target, maybe along with Williams for the back of the rotation

Well Bieber is a the better pitcher.  But coming off TJS.  Probably will miss a few months of 2025.  Whichever.

They ain't paying Bieber 18 million to pitch 3 months neither.

You'll take Griffin Canning and you'll like it

I'm off Bieber if june is when he's projected back unless it is  a 2 year deal and we sign a back end candidate like Williams

TJS in April. 12 months puts him beyond ST. The absolute earliest would be mid to late May. Middle if June is probably a more realistic early time frame.

I would love Bieber. I think Bieber is the best free agent pitcher since Cole. I would shove a 7 year deal in front of him right now. I think he's the next Grienke.

7 years, $175 million, with an opt out after 4?

Whatever he wants.

Even when his velo dropped, he was a 1/2 .

for maybe a lower cost option, is Sugano at 35 years old coming from the NPB an option? It'd be a short contract. He's probably just a backend starter, maybe a reliever, but probably not super expensive. Not a hard thrower at this point but superb control. I suppose for the same money there's Trevor Williams.

Sugano is very good.

TBH, I am amazed they've never signed a Japanese or Korean player. I don't count Eric Thames.

I just don't see us as suitors for NPB.

He can't do the currency conversion factor fast enough before the Lerners freak-out at all the zeros (not Zeros)...

I just don't think the Lerners are willing to spend on the stuff we would need for a NPB player to be comfortable here. On top of that, we don't have a history of it or winning, so we'd have to substantially outbid everyone else.

I don't see this team spending on any named free agents. We will have a lower active player salary next season than Juan Soto will make by himself

I feel like Charlie Brown and Lucy with the ball  but I expect several signings. More than $30 million in signings

Technically, signing guys to arbitration contracts counts as signings

So the Nationals' 2024-25 off-season signing tracker includes:
1. Mason Thompson

Sigh....

Yay fans and sponsors for funding another Lerner family accolade...

It's just wealth redistribution for a good cause.

Philanthropic excellence? Ah yes - that'll be making every other team we've played look good, even when they've been on a slide, and letting all those players, whose careers were on the line, save themselves by teeing-off on the Nats. The Nationals - the gift that keeps on giving... :D   ;)
