So what will it take to sign Santander?

Where are you gonna play him?

I know he wasn't available to use but God do I hates seeing Soler get moved so inexpensively

Soto and Crotchet are probably done deals by Christmas. Abrams shipped out in the Crotchet deal and we sign a vet SS stopgap.

The marijuana amendment here in Florida is generating quite the TV ads.  Kids will be dying from edibles and everyone will be lighting up at Disney as best I can tell.

Bowden projects 7 / $150M (roughly $21.5M AAV a year). I don't see any way the Nats pay that kind of money for him.

Bowden is always wrong. He won’t get that long a deal.

This one says five years.

five / $100-120 would be a no-brainer. At that price point he's going to have a lot of suitors as the poor man's Soto.

Oh, so it won't just be the governor blowing smoke up everyone's ass?

Keith law said in his athletic chat today that he wonders if this is the right year for us to spend/if we should just do one year deals again.  He also said he would be “completely 0% surprised” if we traded Abrams due to work ethic and commitment concerns.

If we trade Abrams, I bet it’s to the dodgers so they can shell out money for an OF or SP and not overpay Adames.  Abrams would then, of course, immediately become an MVP candidate

I mean, that's selling low on Abrams. He isn't even arbitration eligible until after next season and has to minor league options.

If Soto did sign with the Nats they could have:

Wood - LF
Young - CF
Crews - RF
Soto - 1B
Garcia - 2B
House - 3rd (by May) (Supposed to have some power and good defense)
Abrams - SS
Ruiz - C
Yepez - DH

Outfield

Call
Garrett

Infield

Tena
Vargas

Sign a good pitcher and the Nats wouldn't have to apologize to anybody.

First, what evidence is there that Soto could play first?  People keep taking this as if it's a given.  He's not tall, not agile, and has never played infield at any level.  I see no reason to suppose that he'd be anything other than god-awful there, but people seem to just assume sticking his feet on the dirt makes him competent.

Second, that bench is le poop and you've left the entire pitching staff unspoken.

I mean he did better this year than last year so it wouldn’t really be selling low.

I know you have it in for Call, and maybe Vargas too, but don't say that to Garrett where he can hear you. As for Tena, just write that message on a ball and groundit to him. I'm sure it would get by.

I don't hate Call.  He just isn't very good.  He had a career year that turned him into a fringe MLB player.

Trading a player with "work ethic and commitment concerns" is absolutely selling low. No one is going to give you squat fir a with a public reputation like that.

In this fantasy scenario, why not plug Soto into his natural position, DH?
