Crews vs Skenes tonight (assuming Crews plays). Fun fact: Crews hit his first collegiate HR off Skenes when Skenes pitched for Air Force.

Hitting 8th tonight, that will be worth watching

One thing about sending him down is getting him another year of service here.  If he goes down for a few months, he'd still be a likely Super Two, but would become FA eligible a year later.   I'd give him the Rockies series to start doing something, but this is starting to get out of hand.

how odd. Right on 25%, like he's been since the start of April. his Ks aren't his problem.

How does he rank on pitches per PA? Working the count should be a strength of his, but the low BBs has me wonder if he's not  selective, a frequent Nats hitter issue. My impression early on was he was getting to 0-2 a lot, so it blows up the chance to be selective.

That said, his average exit velo is pretty good, so contact quality may not be a problem. I'd like to see him elevating the ball when he connects. No way he should not have any homers with his hard contact.

He has a much better chance of becoming Rochesterian of the year...

Check out the starts of Chourio and Merrill last year, or Dustin Pedroia in 2007.

no more.

He got off to a particularly rotten start with that 8 K streak, hasn't had a ball clear a fence this season, and his contact hasn't been dropping. No question he's a disappointment, and he's having particular problems adjusting to breaking stuff on the outer part of the strike zone. That said, he's settled into about a 20 - 25% K rate (a stat that stabilizes quickly) and he's hitting the ball a bit better to the eye (stats like barrel rate, which is improving, have too few events to be meaningful).

Also a walk and a stolen base. I’m open to the idea he is not that far from a Rochester stint being thinkable, but watching game last night he was fine.

Curse of the Nats first rounders, which is a real curse given the drafting and development operation.

Seaver King and Elijah Green are putting up comparable numbers to Crews...in Wilmington.

Seaver King was picked with better talent on the board and Elijah Green was always a "what if" even before he was drafted. I just hate that we were the team to draft him.

It’s not a curse.  It’s terrible talent evaluation.

The Seaver King BS right now should just stop. Jumping on guys with a bad week or two after a promotion is just dumb, unless you've watched his games and are good enough at recognizing talent that there's an obvious flaw.

Agree, and also terrible player development.

Seaver King has 0 professional HRs and 1 professional extra base hit, with most of the position player first rounders drafted after him progressing at a better pace.  But with that little power, better off with Nasim Nunez who won't hit for power, but at least can get on base and steal.   King was a bad pick to begin with given his history of not walking much and just one year at a top conference school, but he, Crews, and Green are all likely to continue the now 15 year trend of serious 1st round disappointments.

For the past 2 weeks, his K% is 20%. Ks aren't his problem. It's quality contact. Lots of ground balls and minimal elevation. Low hard hit % (20%). 88.1 avg exit velo at a 7.8% angle. 20% pops, which I guess inflates that launch angle.

Him changing his entire swing/batting operation after struggling in limited ABs in AA in 2023 will never make sense to me.

Way too many moving parts in his operation now and he can’t hit fastballs anymore because of it.
