Crews looks electric. As he hits, I think he will become a team leader. He's not the same as Bryce...he's different.

I'm pretty sure "Superstar" is what this fanbase expected when he was selected at #2 overall...especially when he was supposed to represent "The Dawn of a New Era"...

My critiques are dismissed as "Old man yelling at clouds"...but coming from someone like you who followed/follows him closely, this is a bit of a revelation/disappointment...
I never expect any player to be a "star" out of the draft. I've only ever followed real closely Harper and Strasburg, and that was due to their historic profiles. Otherwise, I ignore players until they're producing high minors.

It's Dylan Crews's age 23 season. He has plenty of time. And if he can stick as a defender in CF, what is needed out of his bat is not "super star", same way if James Wood moves to DH then we need more out of his bat than LF.

He did the same at LSU. Would go through a slump, fix it and then take off. He works too hard and is too talented to be a bust. He will be a mainstay for us. Doesn’t have the superstar potential of Wood but multiple all-stars for this guy. He will be fine. And he’s clutch too. Once we start playing some meaningful games you’ll see that no moment is too big for him.

I meant moreso doesn’t have the ceiling that Wood does, but how many players do? Wood is a physical freak. I meant Crews floor is multiple all stars and a mainstay. Still think he’s going to be a big time star but Wood’s potential is very, very rare. Don’t give up hope, I just did a poor job of conveying my thoughts this morning before coffee.  Crews will do more for this franchise than Ryan Z.  8)

Stats are bad. Still not a huge sample size. Just watching he is having some solid ABs and I more and more believe he will be a plus, not passable, center field.

fair to say he had good results at the plate  in 3 games vs AZ and LA, but otherwise has mostly struggled. He could turn this into a nice 10 game stretch with a good series vs Miami. I think he can survive with a 25% K%, which he's managed more or less since he sat vs Toronto. He's not getting walked. I don't think he's swing happy. He takes pitches. He does seem to get fooled into a few bad takes, but most of his called strikes are on the edges. I think the BBs will come up as well as the BABIP.

Yet scored as a flyout, right...unless someone scored from third?  Hitting the post or crossbar in hockey doesn't even get you a shot-on-goal much less a goal unless it goes in...a flyout is a flyout.

The minors are full of guys that almost hit home runs.  Somehow this one got away...

In lacrosse, it gets you a fresh shot clock. In hoops, same thing for hitting the rim. In soccer, they credit shots for things that aren't on goal. We can go on with irrelevancies, or we can focus on things that show ability. A ball that's an out but a homer in most ballparks is still an out in the game but a good sign talent-wise. We are at the stage of evaluating the talent when we are talking about  future projections and expectations. As for what's behind him:

Close is good in horseshoes also.  And important in handgrenades.

We’ve moved from talking about his strikeouts to talking about out his low babip. Seems like progress.

And his fielding has been pretty good.

His arm and range are terrific...the glove remains suspect...

Maybe he should talk to Werth about proper glove break-in procedures...

I don't know nothin' 'bout no fantasy, but their analysis is in line with my observations:

Quote
Dylan Crews consistently received 60 (plus) grades and 70 (plus plus) grades for hitting ability on the 20 to 80 scout scale before the 2023 Draft and still gets some 60s today. Yet, it is far more likely that he should have been evaluated as a circa 40 (full minus) hitter all along.

his season stats that you quote are messed up by the 8 straight Ks his 2nd and 3rd game this year. If you look from the game after his benching (4/2) through his last game, his K% is 24%. That's an acceptable contact rate. Let's see what his K% stabilizes at.

I would like to see more BBs and some power.

For me, it's not even about the stats...it a simple eye test...for whatever that's worth...

He's been overhyped...not unlike Caleb Williams with Da Bears.

I said that I thought he'd eventually become Lane Thomas v2.0.  Let's hope that's still attainable...

Didn't you call Mike Schmidt a bust after his rookie year?

Crews vs Skenes tonight (assuming Crews plays). Fun fact: Crews hit his first collegiate HR off Skenes when Skenes pitched for Air Force.
