Him changing his entire swing/batting operation after struggling in limited ABs in AA in 2023 will never make sense to me. Way too many moving parts in his operation now and he can’t hit fastballs anymore because of it.
we knock the development staff and the hitting coach, but this is a serious case of a dude who needs to talk to his LSU coaches and look at old film
He's getting better? Like over the last couple weeks, he's cut down the strikeouts
the k thing is a red Herring. His k rate is 20% since he sat 4/1. I'd give up a few more ks if he would drive the ball more. His hard contact rate is 20% when mlb average is 31%. He pops 20% of his flies. Mlb average is <10%.
It’s not a curse. It’s terrible talent evaluation.
If you're saying you watched him at LSU and foresaw these issues and would have passed on him, then you're smarter than most of the scouts in baseball. Had Nats passed on Crews, he'd still have bene gone fast. Even after his major league debut, he was considered one of best prospects in baseball going into this season. But if you can honestly say you saw this coming, hat tip to you.
Send him down. Keeping him up is starting to look silly.
3 game hit streak, strikeouts way down.
The homers and double were great swings and smoked no matter Coors or not. Of course the Rockies are awful and it’s Coors, but a big weekend can ease the pressure and let the kid relax. Struggling and coming through on the other side is huge.
I swear we were doing this same thing with Rendon years ago. Calling him a bust and then he became what we all expected and more.
2015. Forgot he had switched to second base. https://districtondeck.com/2015/10/18/washington-nationals-2015-player-review-anthony-rendon/
Maybe if he could bat against college pitchers that he's faced before. Wait...
Last 10 games: 40 PAs / 38 ABs: .263 / .300 / .447 for a .747 OPS. 2 HRs, 4SBs, just 5Ks and 2BBs
Progress is good!
