It would be hard. As you suggest,

1. You might ask Victor, "How do you feel?" And Robles might answer, "I'm ready to go. Feel great!" And then you might believe him, if

2. You didn't time his running. If he has lost speed, you might close your eyes.
Dont even need to time it. Just need to watch his reaction.

Of course. My hunch: Robles will be out another six weeks or more. The reports mention something in the lumbar region. If treatment is for Robles to build up his back muscles, that might try to compensate for something more serious in the back. From what I remember and what I just read about back spasms, a normal treatment begins with relaxing the back muscles, the muscles that are too tense.

He can check with Robert Kraft on where to get some relaxation in Florida.

If/when Stras officially medically retires, is there a situation where the organization still pays him, but it doesn’t count towards the salary number?  I know we’re years away from approaching the spending to hit the luxury cap anyway, just curious.

I don’t think it works that way. Someone else can undoubtedly provide the rules.

No one really medically retires, although the team could release him to clear up a 40-man spot in the off-season.  His contract is guaranteed in full, the amounts towards the luxury tax have already been computed.  Regardless of what they do, he's on the books through 2026 and none of that changes.

Since it's a very soft cap, there's no reason to do the chronic NFL procedure of extensions with guaranteed money up front, then cutting the guy 2 years into what's on paper a 5 year deal.  No cap, so no cap maneuvering needed.

I"m sure that right elbow is swollen up a ton.  He got beaned at the exact same spot twice in a couple of games.

This is a great time to put him on the IL, have him work on some things, and build up Vargas' trade value

not a bad idea.  Lots of talk that there may be interest in Vargas. Cheap with an average bat and multiposition defense.

he has 1 more start before the ASB.  Easy to skip him and give him about 2 weeks off. IL him so you can bring Espino back up or keep Ferrer around when Corbin is off the bereavement list.

Tanner Rainey currently throwing two 45-pitch bullpen sessions per week and likely not far away from a rehab assignment.

Post article says that Ward has been on the Nats roster long enough that they won't lose him if they keep him on the IL for the rest of the season.

Jeimer Candelario has a bone bruise in his right thumb, per Davey Martinez. Hurt it during a pregame defensive drill, but it felt worse when he tried to swing in his lone at-bat tonight.

Candelario injured it fielding ground balls Friday afternoon, but thought he could play through it. While fouling a pitch off in the first inning, he felt pain and signaled to the Nationals’ dugout and was promptly removed.

“I’m a little bit concerned, because of the way he came off the field,” manager Dave Martinez said. “But he said he’s feeling a lot better now. He’s out of the first game [of Saturday’s doubleheader], obviously, so we’ll see about the second game.”

:(

Give him the day off, maybe the weekend. Need him OK or else he's Schwarber at the deadline.
