Victor Robles still out. He was eligible to come of the IL three days ago, but still not here.

CF Victor Robles (back spasms)

Expected return: May

Robles experienced back discomfort sliding into second base on May 6 against the D-backs. He was placed on the 10-day IL on May 8, retroactive to May 7. Robles is doing core stability work to help in his recovery. (Last updated: May 12)

Ahead of the series opener, Manager Dave Martinez provided a list of injury updates: Center fielder Victor Robles (back spasms) is progressing slowly. Left-handed reliever Sean Doolittle (elbow surgery) continues to pitch every other day in West Palm Beach, Fla., and could do so on back-to-back days in the near future. Reliever Victor Arano (shoulder strain) had a setback during a recent bullpen session and will soon undergo another MRI exam. And starter Chad Kuhl (right foot metatarsalgia) is close to returning, whether that means a minor league rehab assignment or immediately rejoining the Nationals’ staff.

From MLB.COM:

Quote
May 19: CF Victor Robles progressing "slowly" from back injury
Robles remains sidelined because of back spasms, for which he went on the 10-day injured list on May 8 (retroactive to May 7).

"Vic is progressing slowly," manager Dave Martinez said on Friday. "It's an ongoing issue. He's been swinging, says he still feels a little bit sore. So we'll just keep progressing him as tolerated."

https://www.mlb.com/nationals/news/nationals-injuries-and-roster-moves

No mention that Carter Kieboom has hurt himself, but Jake Alu played 3B for Rochester yesterday. Went 2-for-5 in a game that Peralta lost by giving up eight runs in a shad over an inning.

doo at wilmington

Quote
May 26: LHP Sean Doolittle goes to High-A Wilmington
Doolittle is now at Wilmington and in the midst of a pitching progression that will require several outings before the Nationals consider the next step, according to manager Dave Martinez. "I think it's just a matter of letting him continue to build," Martinez said. "He's going to have to pitch seven or eight times before we figure out what's the next step for him. Hopefully, he gets through it without any issues."

Doolittle was cleared to pitch on consecutive days in his recovery from a left elbow internal brace procedure last July. He signed a Minor League deal with the Nationals this offseason and had previously been rehabbing at the club's training complex in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Robles has resumed running and agility drills as well as hitting off a tee and doing flips, and on May 30, he took 40 swings in the batting cage, according to manager Dave Martinez. There's still no timetable for Robles' return.

What back injury has Robles had? This, sadly, looks more serious than back spasms. Or different than the back spasms I had about 15 years ago. That went away after about a week with heat treatment and some sort of muscle-relaxer pills.

Pineda strained his oblique during his rehab so is shut down again.

On Friday, Robles took swings BP for the first time since his injury.  Will be running on the field Wednesday.  I expect him to practice getting picked off and making other foolish decisions a bit later.

Then the Nats need to trade him to the Yankees or Mets. People always eat donuts or sandwiches on the subway (although not during rush hour).

From MASN:

Quote
* Victor Robles took batting practice, shagged fly balls and ran on the field today in his most extensive workout since going on the injured list with a back injury one month ago. Martinez suggested Robles could be ready to begin a rehab assignment this weekend, which means he could be ready to rejoin the active roster sometime next week.

* Tanner Rainey made 10 throws off a mound in West Palm Beach, Fla., today, the first time he’s done that since undergoing Tommy John surgery last July. The right-hander remains on track in his rehab program and continues to target August for his return to the majors.

* Victor Arano will need shoulder surgery at the end of the month and faces a long recovery. The right-hander, who had a 4.50 ERA in 43 games last season, injured himself in spring training and had been unable to get himself healthy in the ensuing months.

Edwards, robles are in W. Palm for rehab.

Edwards:
Quote
Expected return: July
Edwards likely will undergo an MRI for his right shoulder this weekend at the team's training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla. He is shut down from baseball activity for three to four days. Edwards was diagnosed on June 21 with right shoulder inflammation. The late-inning reliever ha made 32 appearances this season with a 3.69 ERA across 31 2/3 innings.

Robles:
Quote
He experienced discomfort running in his return and was placed on the injured list again on June 21. Robles is rehabbing at the Nationals' training complex in West Palm Beach, Fla., while the team is on the road. He is shut down from baseball activities for three to four days with a focus on rebuilding core and back strength before he can swing again.

I'm worried that Victor is suffering from something worse than back spasms.

How do you miss discomfort from running?

How do you miss discomfort from running?

It would be hard. As you suggest,

1. You might ask Victor, "How do you feel?" And Robles might answer, "I'm ready to go. Feel great!" And then you might believe him, if

2. You didn't time his running. If he has lost speed, you might close your eyes.
