Between games of the split doubleheader at Busch Stadium, Harvey underwent an X-ray — just in case he had bone chips in his elbow — and it came back clean. But he was not available for the nightcap, nor was he in the bullpen for Sunday’s series finale.

Manager Dave Martinez said Harvey is likely to go on the 15-day injured list before Washington visits the Chicago Cubs on Monday night. Left-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa is expected to meet the Nationals in Chicago on Monday, according to a person familiar with the situation. And since starter Patrick Corbin will need to be activated from the paternity list, the Nationals could have to clear two roster spots, so they may option Joan Adon or Paolo Espino, who serve the same purpose of mopping up lopsided games.

An MRI revealed Harvey has a "mild strain" in his right elbow, said manager Dave Martinez. Harvey had experienced soreness in his right forearm and triceps, which raised concern due to his lengthy history of arm injuries.

"Best-case scenario for us," Martinez said of the results. "We're going to shut him down for 10 days and then resume his throwing. But we'll just let it calm down a little bit and build some strength up and get him back as soon as we possibly can."

Updates on the status of Ward, Edwards, and Robles. Ward and Robles are doing strengthening exercises in West Palm, but Ward is not throwing and Robles is not doing baseball activities.  Edwards has been long tossing (120 feet) and is slated to throw off the mound today.

He may be further along than Edwards. We will see which one gets to rehab appearances first. Would be nice if Edwards was back in MLB next week, but I think that's unlikely. Any trade would be based on a team saying, "looks healthy enough" based his rehab and med records.

Injury updates -

Robles to rehab in Washington rather than West Palm. Team wants to be extra careful in monitoring his strengthening program to avoid a repeat of the false start his first time back, per Davey's pregame presser yesterday.

The Nats website has updates on Harvey, Edwards and Ward. 

Harvey:

Harvey, who was placed on the 15-day IL on July 17 (retroactive to July 16), is expected to play catch soon. The Nationals were relieved by the results of an MRI exam given the closer's injury history, which includes Tommy John surgery.

"The only good thing about being hurt as much as I have been, you kind of know the difference between normal soreness and stuff you don’t want to have," Harvey said. "It’s something we jumped on early." (Last updated: July 24)

Edwards to throw 20-25 pitches in a bullpen today.

Ward may do the same in West Palm. They are being cautious in light of his TJ history.

One of the Nats reporters said that Robles was at the park on Sunday and appeared to be fine. Zimmerman was there as well, taking grounders, and looked to be fine as well.

Injury updates
Outfielder Victor Robles walked into the clubhouse before the game with a smile on his face and greeted teammates. Robles said he was feeling “much better” after back spasms sent him back to the injured list June 21. Martinez said Robles will continue to rehab in Washington, including when the team travels, before going on a rehab assignment.
