He also didn't have any competition. The Braves and Phillies are much better this year.

Really poor taste to call Severino out in public. Of all the things this team has done wrong this year, he singles out Severino. A young struggling catcher who had some fun after he smacked a rare homer. It was pretty innocent if you ask me. He wouldn’t dare call out Harper for his lackadaisical play.

What? Didn’t these boards ask for him to basically do this weeks ago? He needs to yell and yada yada?

Today they needed to sweep to start making up for being so bad for so long. But that was some uninspired  baseball today.
I guess they figured 3 games was rnough.

I didn't like him calling out Pedro for what amounts to a pretty meaningless thing, but he's doing the best he can given the injuries and circumstances. You bring in a rookie manager you're rolling the dice and you live with the results.

I missed the "call out".    Can somebody post it or direct me to it?

It would have been nice. But it’s unrealistic to expect to not lose games. I highly doubt the will play .750 ball the rest of the way.

However, winning 6 of the next 8 is realistic imo. If they can do that, they are in a good position coming out of the ASB.

Did Davey explain why in the heck he had Herrara warm up for so long today, only to not get used?

Quote
Manager Dave Martinez wasn’t happy with Severino’s bat flip, Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post reports. Martinez said he’s fine with emotion from players who hit lots of home runs, but “when you have two, that doesn’t play.”

It's ok but will probably come across as a double standard when he lets Bryce do what he wants. Staring at home runs when hitting .218 and not running balls out.  Of course he's not these manager to let Harper do what he wants.

Explained he let Ryan keep going because Ryan asked to keep working on things.

Been watching his home runs also. Haven't been many though. I just like to watch his hair.

"can't really blame the manager when the guys aren't even trying."

That's exactly who you blame.
If the players aren't giving 100% you get a new manager. It's easier than getting 25 new players.
A manager isn't going to be respected when he tries so hard to be one of the guys.

I count one mistake so far this season. But every other decision he has explained and there is logic behind it. Including not batting Adams for Difo.

You must have only seen 1 game this year.

Actually tells you what the Nats feel about the catching situation. Sev isn't trust at all to hit. And that's reasonable.

Agree.
Severino can't hit and his defensive abilities are extremely overrated. He can't hit, bad at blocking pitches and I heard that Nats pitchers don't like throwing to him.
Kieboom looks like there is at least a chance he will get a hit and I think is better than Severino behind the plate.
Send Severino to Syracuse when Wieters returns and keep Kieboom as backup until a trade is made.

I don't fault Severino too much for the flip but Martínez was right to tell him to tone it down, last thing we need is a brawl to support a AAAA catcher. No reason for Martinez to call him out publicly.

I think Martinez calling Severino out for flipping his bat was the reason the Marlins didn't try to advance with runners on 1st and 2nd on Reynolds wild pitch in 9th.

I don't keep a list and can't remember all of them off the top of my head but here's a few:
Being down by 1 in the ninth and Adams on first and he didn't pinch run Matt Reynolds for him. With Adams on first and the other team in a no-doubles defense he should have known that it would take 3 more singles/walks or a HR for Adams to score. Next batter hit a single to right and Adams went to second, Reynolds would have easily been on 3rd with no outs. Nats didn't score and lost game. He did pinch run Reynolds after Adams went to 2nd but it's a case of making a move too late.
Martinez announced his reliever before the pinch hitter was announced and the other team switched to a better left/right or right/left matchup.
Batting Turner 6th and the pitcher 8th is idiotic. Let Turner get on and steal 2nd which is what you expect him to do and then expect the pitcher to drive him in 2 batters later?
Harper's in a huge slump so what could be smarter than batting him first and starting the game off with an almost automatic out? The Nats need Harper but they can't afford to lose games while he's working things out.
Zimmerman making his own spring training schedule. How did that work out?
There are many more but like I said I haven't been writing them down. I could come up with many more if I wanted to waste my time on something that should be obvious to any Nats fan.
One more to think about:
In May Scherzer, Strasburg, Gio and Roark were the top 4 pitchers in the league in pitches thrown per start, all over 100 per start. In July Scherzer doesn't look sharp, Strasburg is on the DL and Gio and Roark stink. Coincidence?
