So, in other words, the ump got it right, and most of the posters here complaining simply dont understand the game.

Anyway, I'm curious if he'll bench Bryce and for how long.

FP got it right last night.    His clarification included the batter can't create a balk.     Of course, FP can say it but it's good to see the rule in writing   ...  dcpatti on the case, as usual.

Is that what that was?  A head game move by Eaton?  He should worry more about his head, and hit a ground ball to the right side when we have a runner on 2nd with nobody out.  Or just bunt.   Last night he a grounder to short that resulted in a brain dead baserunning play by Difo, and in the same situation in Pittsburgh he hit a lazy fly ball to left.

It’s the same game the opponents play with Max. Or Arietta. Or that human rain delay in LA. Just because the Nats currently suck at situational hitting doesn’t mean they should stop trying to mess with the pitchers’ timing or game plan.

I think it is agreed this team is horrible at playing fundamental baseball.
Just look at what a manager who stresses fundamentals has accomplished  with the Reds.
I applauded Riggleman for telling the Lerner's to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

Big test today, does Harper sit. My money is on Bryce right back at clean up.

I bet you are right.
Frank, Davey J.and Dusty would have benched his ass on the spot
Manny would not think he was not hustling

Matt? Well, Matt would not have seen it.

Boras and Bryce run the show. Just like they have in prior years.

He has plenty of history not hustling. When did those guys ever bench him?  You just chose not to notice because he was hitting.

Maybe they chose not to bench him because he was an offensive force. In any event I don't ever remember  Harper playing as lackadaisical as he is this year.
If they didn’t bench those managers certainly would not have waited until tomorrow  to " speak " to him

The Big Intern pulled him from a game once when he didn't run all the way to first...

Pollin and Loverro were musing about how much influence Werth had over Harper and the clubhouse.    Dusty (or somebody) would have asked JW to speak to him about the issue.    Then they laughed that Papelbon would have handled the problem (literally).

I remember that now. Our worst manager at least tried.

Should have just made Werth the manager.

Wait, the worst manager in the history of the franchise did something that fans are saying that Davey would do if he was a good manager?

Top 5 reasons this team stinks: 1. Bryce Harper 2. Bryce Harper 3. Bryce Harper 4. Bryce Harper 5. Dave Martinez

Should have done what I suggested months ago.  If you weren’t going to keep Dusty and you thought Martinez was the future. Drive the Brinks truck up to Jim Leyland’s house and give him a 1 year contact with the stipulation that Martinez is his bench coach and would take over in 2019. This idea looks much smarter now. But it looks like the Lerners are penny wise and pound foolish.

Why on earth would Davey be any better a year from now? They wanted a younger statistics driven manager, if Dusty didn’t fit the bill ancient Leyland wouldn’t either.

My thinking was, that you don’t trust the last year of your window to a rookie manager. And the whole reason they claimed they were getting rid of Dusty was inability to win in playoffs. That’s not the rub on Leyland. And having Martinez as the heir apparent. Knowing he had the job locked up allowed him to lend the analytics and also learn on the job.

What they should have done is gotten someone with experience who's well respected in baseball circles, knows how to manage a clubhouse and can make good decisions. I didn't think bringing in a rookie manager was a good idea. I like Davey personally and it's not all his fault but he's just in over his head here. Not a good fit for a team that has playoffs/World Series aspirations.

Reminder that the Yankees, Red Sox, and Phillies are all doing quite well with rookie managers.  Roberts did ok as a rookie in LA iirc.

So it's just our rookie manager that sucks.

The Nats are looking at a 20 game drop in wins, granted that injuries played a part, but Martínez is every bit the disaster I thought he'd be right from that first press conference. You could tell immediately that he's not too bright, Rizzo wanted a guy who would take direction from upper management and they got their puppet. This stinks.
