One woman I heard interviewed earlier said that they lived in a 100 year plane. There was no flooding last tonight so they thought they would be ok. She was rescued today.

Houston has a population of 2.3 million. Given the political and social leanings, I think the majority would have evacuated. Which would have been a logistical nightmare.

Houston metro area is closer to 6.5 million - a few interstates and highways could never move that many people. Just a few accidents or breakdowns and no one is moving

Which is one of the big reasons as to why you don't conduct a mandatory evacuation 24-36 hours before the storm.

Sucks to be him. He lives a massively Democratic city. He will have zero problems getting re-elected. He's no more to blame than any other mayor of any other major city hit by a major storm. If he wants to turn the tables, simply ask if they have any idea the logistics involved in evacuating several million people. Then drop the mic and walk off.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, the Addicks Reservoir is projected to overflow and they are now ordering mandatory evacuations for areas north of it.  It's 108' tall and was designed to survive a 500-year flood.  Local news is saying they have no projections for the impact of water going over the top of the levee as they've never mapped that potential event.  G-d forbid there's a failure.  It has been pouring again tonight in Houston and areas west.  NWS says the storm will lift out on Monday, but there's one more day of rain to go.  Current projections are for another 10-15" of rain in the Houston area.

Addicks reservoir has hit 108' so water is now going over the spillway.  The worst worst case scenario is a failure of the levee, which would flood downtown Houston, but there's little chance of that happening.

The other big reservoir is Barker, reports are this morning that the gauges measuring its level are no longer functioning.
