A single ace reliever

Just posted in another thread. Givens from Baltimore. They have bullpen depth and no farm system. Or Mike Wright (failed starter but great stuff). Just a thought.

I know the Yankees are trying to unload, but they will only unload if they get what they want. Seriously doubt they will be in fire sale mode.

I don't think the Nats and Orioles front office will even speak to eachother.

I'd like to see Nats give Matt Grace another shot in the majors. I don't who goes to make it happen but he's been a stud at every level. I don't think he's a closer but he's a good arm.

He's not pitching too bad this season, but he's on the DL. 0 HRs, 6:16 BB:K

We have enough lefties with Perez, solis, and Rivero.  If we get another it better be an ace (i.e. Miller or chapman)

Going to be a high price (and those contracts...oh my).

Neither one of those contracts are bad

Miller is filthy but injury-prone. I don't think that is a desirable contract IMO.

Chapman has his own baggage.

What's wrong with that contract?

I thought it was more, my bad.....if the Yankees are looking to move him, why would they be doing that then?

Well if the Yanks don't trade chapman they will get 2 1st round picks for him if he goes Via FA... So we have to out bid that and the other teams after him. He's going to cost a ton

No, they won't.

They will get a draft pick at the end of the first round.

If you pick him up at the deadline you get him for 4.5.

That's not how it works. They get a (1) comp pick.

Isn't it a 1st rounder from teams 15-30 in standings and a sandwich pick at the end of the 1st?

No, the new CBA changed from Type A/B comp picks a couple years ago. The signing team still forfeits a draft pick, but the "losing" team only gets a comp round pick

Good god, no. No, no, no, no, no.  Jesus, no.  No.  As I've said before, I've watched the dude pitch entirely too much for my comfort and there's absolutely nothing to suggest he's a major league pitcher.  If he were right handed, he'd never have made it above AA.  He had 22 MLB appearances last year - at age 26, so it's not like he's a young guy likely to suddenly make a big leap.  In that time, he had a WHIP of 2, giving up 26 hits in 17 innings.  He gave up a .426 BABIP not because he was unlucky but because everybody was freaking smoking the ball off him

He throws a 91 mile per hour sinker and a slider that mostly just spins (and that he can't locate at all in any event).  He didn't get lefties out (they hit .282 off him), and righties absolutely murdered him (.417).  The higher the leverage, the worse he got: his BAA in high leverage situations was .471!  Did I mention that his stuff sucks as well and that at 27, he's not likely to mysteriously get any better? No?  Oh, okay - his stuff is not good enough to get major league hitters out unless he can locate it very well, and...well, he doesn't have even good control, let alone very good.

In short, yes, I know he gets hitters out in the minors.  But there's absolutely nothing about him that suggests he'd ever be even a decent major leaguer.  Just say no.

I should have been more clear. I figured the people worrying about money were worrying about adding salary during season. Which this year, they shouldn't. We cut costs for once, so hopefully Rizzo won't be handcuffed again.

Started this season almost 20 million less. Though adding Miller also means releasing Papelbon and eating his salary.

Eating his salary and letting him pitch cost the same.

If paplebom would take setup job could be a pretty good pen
