Prospects don't always pan out. Wouldn't they be better off keeping them both?
No Polanco and Marte have long term deals. Meadows is in AAA now. He is the #16th overall prospect in baseball #2 OF prospect. He will be ready soon. Trade the vet while he still has value for prospects and you still have a decent team. Especially if they get a rotation arm, They really need it. I dont think they will do it for fear the fanbase will revolt. The Espn guy said that but it makes sense to do it now since this year is so bad and he probably has the most value he could have right now to them.

Meh. I like keeping the proven player.  Especially since he has a reasonable contract. They are only 4 games out of the wild card so a long way to go.

I think you are pretty well stuck with the team you have now.  Rizzo likes the team he's constructed, and I don't see him bringing in a quality free agent to fill any of our glaring needs.

I expect he'll get relief help but that's it.

If Bryce starts hitting again, and Zimmerman can manage to make just a little contact, I don't think we'd need help.

Just checked and in 2014 Roark was top 15 in ERA, FIP, and WAR for NL starters. In 2014, he had the 13th best WAR in the NL. Four different teams (Cards, Pads, Dodgers, Nats) had two pitchers with better numbers than those, with ERA and FIP being about same. The Cardinals, Padres, Dodgers, and Nationals (Stras/ZNN) all had some darn good pitchers. Roark was right there.

He is a midrotation starter for the Nationals, but more than half the NL would have been happy to have a starter with Roark's production in 2014 as their #1 and definitely their second starter. His arsenal looks weak when he pitches, but more often than not he gets the job done.

And this season he isn't top 15 in those but he's a good start or two away in each. It will be hard to match those numbers from 2014 but for now he is near the top in everything. We'll see once sample size continues to grow. Being able to slot in a Tanner Roark as your #3 or #4 guy is how you make a run at 100 wins.
Roark has started twice since I posted this (@LAD, @MIL) and he is now top 16 in the NL in ERA, FIP, and WAR.

Extend Roark

Both for Trea, Bostick, and Voth
Not giving up Trea Turner for half a season of Reddick and a closer with a questionable shoulder and a high home run rate despite playing in Oakland

Season is almost half over and there is no indication that they will end up on the DL other than Zimm sucking. I hope this doesn't constitute a jinx or maybe it will.

Him too. But no way in hell would I trade a guy that at, as a floor has an average bat/ceiling an all-star bat with 6 yrs of control, for a RP. Especially not one going into a walk year.

Heyman says teams are calling on Turner, which I'm sure is true.

"While Ryan Zimmerman’s numbers don’t reflect it, his 94.6 average exit velocity ranks in the top 10 in MLB. So he may just be unlucky."

Yea ... sure

My God. GMs are idiots.

Rizzo should demand an elite starting pitcher or something unreasonable. He pulled Turner and Ross out of Souza. Some idiot GM may give up an all star for a prospect.
