I would not be surprised (hint, hint) if the Nats gave him an opt-out clause for after year 4. The Red Sox have gone on record saying that won't offer an opt-out. No idea about the Yankees, but I just don't see them ponying up more money after what they have done so far.
Are you guys on OH and Red Sox boards too? Or just hanging out here?

Hey, freak the Sox. freak the Yanks. The Nats are still in this, which is incredible.

I would much rather hang out here. Red Sox boards are horrific for the most part. Orioles fans seem to be a bit delusional. Plus my first ever MLB game was at Olympic Stadium in Montreal, so I have a soft spot for the Nats.

Oh and yes Natskins, I am the EIC of the CMSB, keep that on the DL, or tell me to FO, or whatever (sorry got on a roll with abbreviations there)

Do the Nats really lose draft picks if they get Teix?

well, didn't you tell us this all along?  so why are you upset about it?
Because it still pisses me off that he thinks so lowly of our franchise that he will take less money to go elsewhere. Oh well, freak him.

Just a second rounder, but for a team that was originally trying to build from within and then having lost their first overall pick last year, there was a concern about losing the second rounder.

Heyman now saying the Yanks have seriously revved up their efforts

Quote
In the race to sign Mark Teixeira, the Yankees are turning up the heat.

The Yankees are in deep discussions with Teixeira, in what is now an attempt to beat out the rival Red Sox for Teixeira's services. The Teixeira sweepstakes is considered to be a three-team battle with the Nationals still involved. However, the Yankees' talks have turned serious in recent hours, as the team appears to be stepping up its attempts to lure the free-agent slugger to New York.

The Red Sox remain hopeful to sign Teixeira, who hit .308 with 33 home runs and 121 RBIs in 2008, as a middle-of-the order hitter to replace Manny Ramirez.

Does anyone know where Tex is traveling to right now?
We need to implant a GPS tracker on him

haha the best is last year when the skins were looking for the head coach, people were tracking dan snyder's private jet thinking he was picking up bill cowher.  it made life and work miserable.  much worse than this fiasco.

Heyman

The race to sign free-agent slugger Mark Teixeira has evolved into a three-team battle between the Red Sox, Yankees and Nationals -- and a decision could be made by Teixeira as soon as this afternoon.

The Red Sox have been perceived as the favorites to land the former Angels first baseman, who hit .308 with 33 home runs and 121 RBIs in 2008. The Yankees have made contact as well, and are seriously talking with Teixeira's people. The two-time Gold Glove winner appears to seriously considering signing with New York.

The Nationals, meanwhile, have been heavy bidders all along, but most baseball people believe Washington has an uphill battle against the AL East titans.

for cripes sake

freakin' Yankees. I don't know why they just don't go ahead and sign the 2009 AL All-Star team after the All-Star game. I guess they really want to win a series in their new stadium. I hope it all blows up in their faces.

We didnt lose our pick  (#10) from last year, we get 10B this year along with 1. Tex is easily worth a 2nd rounder - it's a no brainer.

If Tex were to sign with Boston, it would be frustrating to see the rich just getting richer...but if he were to sign with the Yankees, after they just signed CC and AJ, it would just be an embarrassment on the sport.

funny thing is, before the offseason, people were talking about how the poor economy meant less money being spent, even with the yankees

The Yanks and Sox are such whorehouses. It used to mean something to put on that uniform. Now it's like every hooker has been down that street.

Damn, the Nats up against the "powerhouses" (if you really want to call them that). It's like the hobbit against the trolls!

We selected Crow with the 9th pick last year, making us 9a (10th overall) in June of '09 to compliment our first pick.
