That's not going to happen. He is going to get at least 3 years at a minimum and more likely 4-5 years.

Dunn would be a mistake. I could almost live with a 2 year deal but I just don't see that happening.

At this point I pretty much agree with this comment. Who the hell would I even root for? Actually, I take it back. I might become a Tampa Bay Rays fan if there no Nats. I like the underdog-made-good story, and I'd love to root for them against the Yanks, Sox and O's. Hell, they're my second favorite team now.

I'd be ok with 2 years but I don't think he signs for that short a contract.

I don't care who it is. it could be Dunn, it could be some random guy off the street. as long as what we have going into the season is better than what we had last season. I guess to some folks, this sort of thing doesn't matter. we could have the worst offense in baseball again next year, but it'll be fine because at least we won't have Adam Dunn striking out 200 times in our lineup, right?

I am not a huge Dunn fan. I'd rather see the Nats make an honest go at signing Zim to an extension .Take care of your own and show some semblance of better things in the future.

I'd try to pluck Fuentes from the Angels.

They tried with Tex and got sand kicked in their face. this could be a much bigger hit to the players than us (fans).

Sportsfan, look Dunn k's a lot and doesn't play great defense, that's why it was essential to get Teixeira ... but now we have to settle for the second tier free agents. Really missed a chance of having a phenomenal offseason.

I'm very down right now, nothing right now is making me feel optimistic about this upcoming season.

We're talking more about Dunn over in the Plan "B" thread if others want to take part in what we should now.

I think it would have been a great underdog story if we had landed him, considering no one outside of DC gave us a chance to get him. And we'd still be an underdog, because everyone claims we'd still suck even with Tex.

sportsfan should love Dunn because striking out requires taking pitches and working the count.

But at what cost?

We definitely need a legit 1B-man, I agree, but just because Dunn is available doesn't mean we should jump on him. I really don't know who we could acquire. Tough spot for the Nationals. They can't afford to stick with NJ and Dmitri but it also doesn't make much sense to ink Dunn to a long-term deal.

You really think we should overpay for a mediocre closer and spend money on a guy that we already control for years? Hello, 120 losses.

The problem with that is you take the risk of losing your fan base. I'm on board with building through youngsters, but you can't wait around forever. Remember this city has already lost a team twice. Last year we didn't exactly set records for ticket sales at a brand new ballpark.

If you don't get anyone this offseason, get ready for another 100 loss season. I hate to be sound like a crappy broken record, but it's true. Not saying Dunn will take us to the playoffs, but he'll help fill a hole and win us more games for this season.

You really can't compare the Skins to the Yankees. There's a salary cap in football. Any NFL team could do exactly what the Skins do if they wanted to. But most of them don't, because the formula hasn't proven to be successful.

In baseball, you could have one team with a $20 million payroll, and another with a $220 million payroll. Not so in football.
