all I know is we better have a contract out to Dunn within an hour of Tex's signing with the Sox.

who do you think should be more crushed:

orioles fans because they made a laughable offer and they have wanted the hometown kid for 7 years now.

or

nationals fans because we were this close in to getting him.

Look at it this way, we all wanted Teix, but we understand we are still a while away from building a competitive club. Also, we knew that if the Sox were anywhere near our offer, he would take theirs. O's fans are dillisusional, thinking he's taking a discount, and that he will somehow make their club this powerhouse in the NL East. Boras is not taking a discount for the O's, and Teix is not bringing the WS to Baltimore this year or next.

Sometime this afternoon I suppose. Nothing official though.

The funny thing is CMDterps and my family are full of 75-80% Nats fans and 25-20% O's fans (on both our dad's and mom's sides) ... so this Christmas we may all be venting about how much it sucks to miss out on Teix.

Man oh man what an awesome present that'd be.

Howfar do you think is "a while"?  A year, two, five?  I think it's closer to two if by some miracle (which I'm not terribly optimistic about at this point) they land Tex and they're aggressive again next year for pitching.

O's fans, no question. They've thought for years now that it was a foregone conclusion that Tex would ultimately come home. But their offer to him was insulting in comparison to what other teams offered, and they apparently were never even a factor in all of this.

Meanwhile, most Nats fans are stunned that the Nats went after Tex as hard as they did, and we're pumped up to see this type of commitment made.

In a nutshell: Nats fans have a renewed sense of optimism about the future of the franchise, while O's fans are asking themselves why they even bother supporting their team anymore.

I hope that money is not spent on Dunn. Waste of money. Same with Hudson.

My sources just texted Lerner to ask him to sign both Tex and Dunn to mess with Sportsfan.

Too bad my source is imaginary and only texts Jayieson Stark and Robert Olney

If true, there is nothing we or the team can do about that. Let him feel the wrath of the Players Union and the cold shoulders when he comes back home to MD/DC/VA.

I just can't believe he will
He is a friggin representative. I know he would lose that honor, and I know his fellow players would be pissed.

This will mess with what they get in FA and during arbitration.

True...although the O's fans have no right to moan. B-More's offer apparently was laughable in comparison to the others. Their owner is the one who should feel the fans' wrath.

We, on the other hand, have a right to feel slapped in the face if we truly outbid the Sox and he turned us down.

That we would. It would be a huge slap in the face, not only to us, but to all teams who have been on the down who look to get better. If we couldn't pull it off, what makes their chances any better in the future with another FA? Teix is in a unique position to possibly change the game, the way business is done, and make the game more inticing for future fans. He really is, but that all goes away the minute he pulls those shenangins and signs with a team like the Sox or Yanks.

O's fans would give him the cold shoulder whether they were in it or not. A hometown boy denying the hometown team? Blasphemy.

Loverro is about to be on "Inside Pitch" with Dave Sims and Bill Ripken to talk about Teix and the Nats.

If someone could relay what is said on "Inside Pitch" for those who don't have access at the moment, that would be a nice holiday gesture.

Seems as though Chico would be a bit embarrassed to post this...particularly the two bolded lines. It's almost an admission that "I have no sources and I don't know what I'm talking about."

Particularly the last line. Instead of saying "more to come as I find out more," he says "more to come as "the baseball world finds out more." WTF? Am I being too picky, or should we expect a little more from a beat reporter?

------------------------------------

Word Coming Today On Tex?

The latest word on the Teixeira derby comes from Thom Loverro, who has a source saying that an announcement on Teixeira's signing is coming today. The story goes on to say "there are strong indications that the Red Sox will announce they have landed the highly-coveted slugger."

One Nationals spokesman I just talked to said that, as far as he knows, the Nats have no plans for an announcement today regarding Teixeira.

More to come as the baseball world finds out more.

So what exactly is our offer compared to theirs? Are we only offering 5mil more or are we going higher?
