It's clear he doesn't have any new information since his post this morning.

It sounds like he actually knows LESS than his original statements in the article this morning.

I did like his commentary of "who would Angelos rather have Tex go to" debate.  And I also liked the statement he made about how the Lerners are in a different mind-set than they were just six months ago (in terms of signing players).  Sounds like the Lerners mean business now.

When asked about his suggestion that the Red Sox were about to ink Texeira to a deal, Loverro responded, "Crap, did I say that out loud?"

The Mark Teixeira derby appears to have come down to the Red Sox and the Nationals, and while Teixeira doesn't appear to have decided yet, the teams are expecting a decision today, according to sources.

The Nationals are believed to be offering more money, as well as a chance for Teixeira to play near his native Maryland. The Red Sox offer a much better chance to win.

CBS says that he hasn't made up his mind yet.

What a waste of time.  Natsfan4ever:  That is NOT indicative of the interviews we get on XM-175.  Loverro came across as a complete DOPE.  He had zero sources backing his claim about a decision today - and if a decision does happen today, I'll give more credit to NotLD and the Nats NQ.  Loverro's gonna put the old "blind squirrel..." theory to the test with that claim - and unfortuantely he could end up being right.

My guess is it comes down to does he want to win and take less money (Boston) or does he want to take the bigger money, try to build a franchise and accept a contract with an "opt-out" clause in it (Nats or O's).  I still have a sneaking suspicion that the Orioles are in it as much as we are.

This was posted literally within the last 5 minutes over at OH. It would be cute if it weren't so sad...

I'm thoroughly convinced we'll be signing Tex. Seemed implausible just a couple years ago that I'd ever have faith in this organization again.

Go O's!

Thanks, Minty.

This whole thing is sounding more and more like the mass media getting antsy for a story and trying to force a story by trying to force a decision or to scare someone who indeed has knowledge of the negotiations into slipping up and giving them a bone.

Of course they do. New York, Boston, and Chicago teams are their meal tickets and all they know. God forbid, if someone else steps up to the plate and challenges them. Then they would actually have to do a bit of research and reporting...you know...true journalism.

It's like the Presidential primary - the networks want it decided as fast as possible so they have less ground to cover. Soooooo lazy.

I used to think that was crap, but now more so than ever that is so blatantly obvious it is sickening.

Oh and I still think Teixeira is going to be a National. Like, 99% sure http://www.centralmainesportsblog.com/2008/12/teixeira-to-nationals-99-according-to.html, lol....

Happy Holidays to all!

Nats should have no objection to an opt out clause, but the trick will be making it after 5-6 years, while Tex would want 2 or 3.

Heyman

The race to sign free-agent slugger Mark Teixeira has evolved into a three-team battle between the Red Sox, Yankees and Nationals -- and a decision could be made by Teixeira as soon as this afternoon.

The Red Sox have been perceived as the favorites to land the former Angels first baseman, who hit .308 with 33 home runs and 121 RBIs in 2008. The Yankees have made contact as well, and are seriously talking with Teixeira's people. The two-time Gold Glove winner appears to seriously considering signing with New York.

The Nationals, meanwhile, have been heavy bidders all along, but most baseball people believe Washington has an uphill battle against the AL East titans.

who do you think should be more crushed:

orioles fans because they made a laughable offer and they have wanted the hometown kid for 7 years now.

or

nationals fans because we were this close in to getting him.

O's fans by a longshot. How painful is it gonna be for them to have to watch him at Camden Yards in a Red Sox uniform?

Right.  If the Orioles don't sign him, the three teams they would least like him play for are exactly the 3 teams left.

I think it's the Yanks or us. Just my gut feeling. I wonder if Boras is willing to let the Yankees have high bid only if the Red Sox would win otherwise. That's serious tampering I'd wager.

I would not be surprised (hint, hint) if the Nats gave him an opt-out clause for after year 4. The Red Sox have gone on record saying that they won't offer an opt-out. No idea about the Yankees, but I just don't see them ponying up more money after what they have done so far.

I still don't believe the Yanks are that serious. I still see them as nothing more than a chip to get the Sox to overspend or another team to outspend them.

Does anyone know where Tex is traveling to right now?
We need to implant a GPS tracker on him
