No, just a tough atmosphere. Nothing has been reported in days that we haven't already regurgitated for the past 100 pages except the Angels dropping out.

Don't worry, we'll get another report from someone random from a news paper in Michigan about where the offers might stand currently.

Agreed, but Jeff is the only one to actually say nothing is happening, whereas everyone else is breathlessly reporting speculation that the Red Sox are really in it, or they are doing this, or the Yankees are doing that, none of it with even one shred of evidence.

I've been telling you nothing has been happening and I've said that without the benefit of "insiders", because it's pretty obvious nothing has been happening.

My "sources" tell me some hermit in the Congo who hunts Anaconda for a living knows where Teixeira is truly going.

The NQ is like Jesus: it is always in our hearts and you never walk that sandy beach alone, even if you don't see our footprints. ;)

Does anyone agree with me?
If the Nats do indeed have the best offer and the Red Sox don't match it, The players union will be pissed off if Tex goes to the Red Sox?

Also, Boras wants him to take the most money. It will be interesting to find out who is holding this up.

Thats what i was getting at yesterday that the highest offer should be taken, i mean he doesnt have to and can take less to play for a winning team, but it seems as if our offer (or the highest) is ways away from the next one to even compare, and seems boras wants tex to get a close amount from those teams so he can play there and still have his rep as taking a high offer.

Im sure itll be settled soon if no one budges to up there offer.

Quote
Teixeira + Nats = World Series

Eight years and $160 million is a lot for a first baseman, and some Nats have wondered whether that's too much even for a guy like Mark Teixeira, especially based on where the franchise is in its rebuilding efforts. But if you knew he would yield a World Series, you'd say go for it, right?

Well, he would. Just ask Collin Balester what would happen if Tex arrives in D.C.

"If that happens it's going to be a dream come true," Balester said during his monthly satellite radio appearance, "Deep Thoughts with Collin Balester," on Minors & Majors with Grant Paulsen. "That guy is a great player, and if he comes to the nation's capital, watch out, we're going to the World Series and we are winning it all. I'm calling it right now. We're playing four games in the World Series, sweep, see ya!"

Minors and Majors airs every Saturday morning on MLB Home Plate, Sirius channel 210 and XM channel 175. Balester, meantime, is scheduled to return to planet earth by 2017 or so.

He tried to post Minute #4 a little while ago, and it was completely blank.  I posted a comment that perhaps he should call that a "second", as opposed to a "minute".

Intriguing debate going on between Mel Antonen and Jeff Joyce on XM-175.

Basically they were arguing under the supposition that the Angels and Red Sox are both out of the Tex sweepstakes and they were debating if it was truly down to Nats and O's, which would be a better fit.  Both argued similar points.  Both claimed that the Nats were in better shape to win sooner because the Nats aren't competing with the Empire and the Frat Sox, both agreed that - as constructed - the Nats had the better farm system and the better pitching (which speaks ill of the O's pitching, I guess), but the differed on the better lineup.  Joyce argued that if Tex was added to Baltimore the Orioles would have one of the best lineups in baseball and Antonen argued that Tex would give the Nats the better of the two lineups and would dramatically improve the Nats offense.

It was great to hear Mel Antonen defend our boys saying things like, "what most people don't realize is that the Nats had injuries at, literally, every position in 2008 - no other team can lay claim to that," and, "young hitters like Dukes, Milledge, Zimmerman and Anderson Hernandez would benefit from having a bat like Teixeira in the lineup."  He also went on to say that Guzman is probably the most underrated shortstop in the majors.

It was disappointing to hear Joyce relive the "Dukes v. Acta" handshake incident asking, "does Teixeira really want to play on a team where people like that are?"

Antonen is now talking about whether or not the Nats will draw better if Teixeira signs with the Nats - he says that Washington is a "workaholics" type of town and that they will only show up if ownership shows a commitment to winning.
