Was trying to be funny.

Honestly, nothing at this level matters to me and its way too early in the season. But the strikeout numbers are simply too high to be sustainable.

There is no box on the minor league broadcasts but looked to me and the opposing team that he struck out that last at bat. Pitch right at the knees. Got a break and took advantage of it. He and Wood both seem to have K issues. Double A will be the real test.

Reminder he is 19 before we elect him to the HOF!!  Plenty to get excited about with Green and Wood. But a ways to go before they are MLB ready. I think the issue with the K rate is that as they move up the ladder the pitchers take more advantage of the holes in their swings.

FWIW, he's been compared to Judge who strikes out about 35% of the time and Justin Upton who had a 29% K rate. We can't possibly draw any conclusions in 16 ABs.

I heard them compare Vic to Jean Segura last night on the broadcast. LOL. They’re always looking for comps.

Looked at Judge first minor league season. 131 Ks in 467 at bats and 563 plate appearances. Of course he was a college guy. And older.

Would be nice if Wood or Green could turn into someone as good as Judge but the chances of that are slim. Let’s see how they progress this year.  Would be fine if they both turn into slightly above average MLB players.

For comparables: Frank Howard struck out 29 or 30% of the time until 1969, when he finally got a hitting coach. Ted Williams let Wayne Terwilliger ("Twigs") manage the team while he worked with the hitters. That changed with Williams. The two kids just got out of high school, so this is the first chance that they have had serious coaching, of the sort that Howard finally got in 1969. Two Ks in two at bats so far. Did not see the first but looked overmatched in the second. Weak swings at breaking balls and then swimming at a fastball at his head level.  Joey Mancini is the pitcher for the Astros affiliate and looks good. 15th round pick last summer from BC. Astros know how to find and develop talent.

Just looked at his K% and it's over 50%(!!). He's only 19 though so I suppose that's not unexpected? When would the K rate start to become a concern?

I just checked Aaron Judge's minor league stats and he never K'd more than ~22% during his time in the minors, but he was also drafted out of college and was 22 when he first started playing professional games and so was a lot less raw.

I/m/O, anything over 30% is concerning. It's not like he's playing against guys who are much more established pros than him.

I'm not sure there's consensus. For fangraphs numbers, it's K/PA for hitters and K/batters faced for pitchers. I'm guessing that the latter is a slight tweak on PAs to include sacrifices.
