Mets are going to need to find some pitching, Syndergard came out of his rehab start with pain.

Phillies defense is atrocious.  Rivals how bad their bullpen was last year.

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/phillies/phillies-defense-implodes-marlins-once-again-latest-loss-miami-aaron-nola

"For the record, the Phils entered the game ranked last in the majors in defensive runs saved (DRS), according to Fangraphs. The Phils were at minus-32 DRS. The next closest team, the Angels, were at minus-24. The Phillies were the only team in the NL East with a minus rating. The Nationals and Mets both had 28 DRS to rank second and third in the majors, the Marlins were 10th with 13 DRS and the Braves were 14th with 6."

Apparently so.

The defensive stats are always a bit of voodoo to me but the Nats are not a bad defensive team.

Castro is good at third and Harrison is better than expected at 2B.  Treason has improved as has been discussed here.  And Schwarber is not as terrible as you said he was going to be.

I like to look at opponents BABIP against our pitchers.  That too suggests pretty good defense as we are 7th or so.

nice call.  I sort of would prefer to find a fix at another position rather than first, TBH.  I believe it is easier to find a low-budget older FA who can hit at that position than at up the middle or 3rd. I don;t know if he was moved off 3rd because he can't play there or because of Devers blocking that spot.

We have Garcia, Kieboom, Turner, Antuna, and Cruz. We have nothing at first base after Bell leaves.

we have Bell for at least another year.  We have him under control as long as we have Turner under control. There's always 1st basemen available as FAs.  Catcher would be another position to look at (I'll go out on a limb and say Robles will control that position for a number of years).  I've lost faith in Kieboom as a 3d base bat, and I'm not convinced any of the others can carry that position.  If Antuna pans out, he's only nailing down one of 2d/SS/3d after Turner is gone.

Casas is better than any thing else we'd get. I mean, maybe the Cards are desperate and give up Gorman. Having a good niddle of the order bat under team control during Soto's prime would actually give the Nats a consistent lineup.

Soto is likely heading to 1B as well at some point.

not going to argue too much. Let's see who gets into the bidding. If it were a choice, I'd still go for a big bat at a defensive position rather than first, but I would not kick about Casas. If Sale is on track, then the Sox might not be that aggressive

Casas is the best prospect you can reasonbly get with Scherzer, and thats with the Nats eating a lot of salary. For a third baseman, youre probably looking at someone really young, like the Cards Walker.

I think the Sox would be absolutely retarded to not be aggressive. Their starting pitching is crap and theyre in a pennant race. Not to mention that having someone better than Nick Pivetta in your playoff roation gives you a better chance of succeeding.

the idea that both ATL and NYM were going to underperform long enough for the Nats not to address issues was folly
