max's no hitter that should have been a perfect game.

The case keeps building to make this another place where umpires can be relieved of final say

Add this to reviewable plays and remove stolen bases.

Get rid of replay altogether.  It doesn't work.

And if they’re going to install the extra innings person on second, it has to be the manager in the San Diego chicken mascot uniform.  Both managers must don the uniform in their respective on deck circles as well and wear them for the remaining duration of the game. (If the manager has been thrown out of the game, they’re out of luck.) If they want to make endings interesting for the sake of spectacle, that will offer fitting imagery. Rule 5.05(b)(2)
 (2)  He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless (A) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or (B) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball;

If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.

Yes, the strike zone is part of the rule. Thats what makes the home plate umpire's ruling so egregious. The replay clearly shows it was a strike. He was in the process of ringing him up on a strike zone.

Heres the video

Seems pretty obvious it was a strike. Conforto made no attempt to avoid it.
Remember how Nats fans for years around here would still complain about the Lance Berkman check swing? And then complain about Tabata leaning in?

That Conforto call is so, so much worse.

MLB needs to regulate padding somehow. Just enough to help prevent severe injury, but not so much huge sluggers just lean into the strikezone with no fear.

wow, listening to Darling is amazing.  He's absolutely adamant that Conforto should be out, and the play by play guy is on board with that too.  As un-homerish as you can get.  But honest.

I think that's one of the reasons why they're often considered one of the best pbp crews out there.

Darling reacted as any pitcher would. Clear case.

So deGrom pitched 8 innings of one run ball.  14Ks and no walks.  76 strikes on 96 pitches.  And he lost again.  I know wins don't carry the same weight as they used to but he really must be frustrated.

If you're watching Philth/Braves you're aware that replay fails again.  Taken nearly 10 minutes and still got it wrong.  Just scrap it already.

The catcher improperly blocked the plate so they did not overturn the play. Against the written and unwritten rules. Check with Brian McCann.

By rule, he can do whatever the heck he wants once he has the ball, and he inarguably had the ball by the time he touched Bohm:

7.13:

A runner attempting to score may not deviate from his direct pathway to the plate in order to initiate contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate). If, in the judgment of the Umpire, a runner attempting to score initiates contact with the catcher (or other player covering home plate) in such a manner, the Umpire shall declare the runner out (even if the player covering home plate loses possession of the ball).

Unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher cannot block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. If, in the judgment of the Umpire, the catcher, without possession of the ball, blocks the pathway of the runner, the Umpire shall call or signal the runner safe

I was just tweaking NatNasty.

In reality Bohm has super long spikes that just touched the plate.

The only way that could have worked out better was if it had been the playoffs.

On the Marlins pregame show they are comparing Jazz Chisholm Junior to Ronald Acuna Junior.

The NL East teams have taken turns beating each other up so far. Only the Mets above .500. And only the Nats have played outside the division.

It's similar or worse in the AL East. At least in the NL East, the Mets were supposed to be the best or near best team.  The AL East is not quite but close to the flip order of expectations.

The Mets in the NL East and the Dodgers in the NL West were predicted to by PECOTA and other preseason prognosticators to lead their divisions. It's early, but that is sort of on-track. Again, it's early, but in the other four divisions, not only is the preseason pick not leading, but the leader in three of those divisions was picked to be in fourth place. And if the Mariners sweep the doubleheader against Baltimore today, all four division leaders will be teams picked to in fourth place.

Boston is just weird.  0-3 v BAL to start the year, then a 9 game win streak.  1st time that's happened.  And 6 of those wins were vs. the Rays and Twins.
