We need to catch lightning in a bottle like the Brewers did in an admittedly small sample with Wade Miley. Miley posted ERAs near (or over) 6.00 with the O's in 2016 and 2017, then goes 5-2, 2.57 in 16 starts with the Brewers. Those type guys are out there!

If you look at their numbers, the Brewers had a number if not good pitchers have good years. They have a good pitching coach.

And Strasburg is a lock to miss a third of the season.

Which is why I've said for months that this team needs to get two more top of the rotation guys. But I have people trying to tell me that we have to hang on to prospects . . . .

I'll take that. He's a super buy-low candidate right now and a guy with a 4.20 ERA and 180 IP sounds  good considering all our hopes and prayers are on Erik Fedde being better than he's ever been, Joe Ross being really good or MYSTERY TURD becoming a #4 pitcher.

At least MYSTERY TURD would lead the team in jersey sales.

It's time to start the ball rolling.  Nothing gets the Christmas spirit humming like one of these babies (and for those of you poor saps already possessing a Gio jersey, you can now fix it with the handy "MYSTERYTURD" stand-alone nameplate applique!):

That would be good with velcro numbers.  Useful year after year.

He was a 3 WAR pitcher the year before, as well as 2013.

I know you don't think 2013 performance actually matters. The year before he racked up a 4.03 ERA with a 4.08 FIP. Not exactly a

We need two guys who can give you at least 180 innings of <3.50 ERA ball

type of dude.

He did it last season. He was coming off injury in 2017, and posted those numbers in the second half. And he posted those numbers in 2013 prior to injuries.

Corbin is easily that guy. Keuchel is likely no longer that guy.

For what it's worth, two sources told me today they believe Patrick Corbin will sign with the Phillies. Nothing official, but that's the latest industry speculation.

Well, at least Rizzo can start prepping for the trade deadline and a rebuild

And Gio wore it last season, meaning all we're doing here is offering people to convert "GONZALEZ" to its righthanded equivalent, which is "MYSTERYTURD."

Six years is an awful lot for a starter who's several years post-TJ.  Just ask the Tigers how they feel about JZ these days.

Once again, baseball's "industry sources" are pretty much just reporters just repeating whatever their friends speculate.

So Rizzo has gotten two catchers, two relievers and a stud pitcher all before the winter meetings. Janes’ theory is that Rizzo wants to get the team where he wants it and then let ownership decide on Bryce. This is much better than signing Bryce and then having the Lerner’s tell him to then cut back in other areas.

that theory doesn't make sense as the Harper contract would have to fit into the overall payroll budget.

It makes a ton of sense I'd you'd rather have fewer holes and not have Bryce Harper

Forget Harper. The outfield will be just fine with Soto, Robles, and a healthy Eaton.

Extend Rendon. He’s the Nats best and most consistent player.
