Well, we're not on his no-trade list

That list looks like a bunch of places he doesn’t want to go to and then some places that look like likely trade partners and he just wanted leverage.

Trade them Roark, Luis Garcia, and another arm. Roark helps offset the money, Garcia and arm are the real stars of the deal. Still have enough cash to pursue Corbin or Keuchel.

I wonder if they go after Mike Fiers?

Doesn't he have like severe anxiety issues and has said before he wouldn't want to play in markets like NY and Boston?

Iirc, he dealt with depression and anxiety while with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. His career is quite remarkable imo.

Gotta say while most might not have their socks blown off by what Rizzo has done. I love it. He has addressed alot of things and spent very little money and prospects.

Do you guys think this is Rizzo's last season as gm if nats don't make the playoffs?

Barring a rash of injuries, yes.

Mariners are giving up 60 million. So they're eating half the contract and giving up the best closer in baseball (with 4 years of TC left) for meh prospects.

Heyman is reporting Mariners are sending 20 million to the Mets plus Diaz and Cano for Bruce, Swarzak, Kelenic, Dunn and Bautista

Some updates:  they are trying to extend Rendon, Zimmerman thinks he’ll work out a deal beyond next season, and there’s still talk about that Harper kid:

https://apnews.com/8089bf85982e4056848264f619094f1e

Zimmerman:
Quote
"I still would like to get compensated fairly, but it's not like I am going to go somewhere else and play for an extra couple bucks," he said. "I don't think it's any secret I'd like to finish here. I'm really optimistic about what will happen, and it goes back to me just staying healthy and playing to begin with. It's on me. If I want to continue playing, I have to prove that I am worth it to keep investing."

Zim is a great guy and needs to be a Nat for life.  But he is going to need to be reasonable if he wants to end his career here.  He will need to accept a significantly reduced roll and be willing to get paid like it. What about a 3 year $24MM deal?

Probably way too long given age/history. Maybe a one or two year deal tops.

They need to just tell him to retire. Give him some stock.

So we're in like Flynn

I'll suspect we have a chance at a big international signing when we have a press conference introducing someone and not before.

So the NL East is going to be tight this year. If the Nats could secure Corbin and another starter and dump Roark (hence why I think moving in a package for Greinke would work), then it really could be tight all year long, and that assumes the Phillies get both Machado and Harper.

No chance we get Corbin. He is going to the Yanks..115 mil over 6 years. And he gets to be closer to his family.

you are probably right, but if we want to compete next season we've got to do something bold.  If not Corbin then Keuchel or Grienke.

Unfortunately we will need 2 SP's of that caliber

We don't need 4 aces. We will sign or trade for a quality #3. Roark is better than most teams #4 and we have Ross and Fedde to compete as our #5

What we need is for our guys to stay healthy, consistent hitting and and stable bullpen. If we have all those 3 we will be a hard team to beat.

No we don't. 3 pitchers of that caliber exceeds what most everyone else has. One of those would be great. We need quality depth behind those 2/3. That's what we're lacking.
