The Mariners can't seem to learn can they.  Always dragging some albatrosses' salary around.

Cano and that whole situation... I wouldn’t touch that at all.

I'm all aboard the Keuchel train. I hope someone else gives Corbin a monster 6/100+ deal and we can snag Keuchel for 3/60ish 4/80ish.

If the Mariners are eating anything even remotely significant, this is a good move by the Mets. It's basically the equivalent of us giving up Erik Fedde and Juis Garcia. If that gets you Diaz and Cano at under 20 million AAV, that's a deal I'd want to make.

Cano will end up being a disaster for the Mets.

Mariners are giving up 60 million. So they're eating half the contract and giving up the best closer in baseball (with 4 years of TC left) for meh prospects.

Because maybe Cano wouldn’t waive his no trade to come here?  I can imagine him wanting to go back to New York. L

Did we even ask? I mean .... jeez. 12 million for Cano is .... worth it. Hell, he's worth it just to get Diaz and flip him at the deadline.

If that's really the going rate for eating salary, maybe it's not unreasonable to get the Dbacks to eat half of Grienke's remaining salary?

I was just speculating. I have no idea really. But it seems a good a reason as any.

who is reporting that they're eating $60 million? all i'm seeing is an old tweet about it with someone predicting it. that's an insane amount and i don't believe that. that makes the deal good for the mets as they're not paying above market rate for a player like cano

From MLBTR:

"The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote yesterday that early interest in Corbin is robust, with some teams believing he’ll receive offers of six years in length. (MLBTR projected Corbin to sign a six-year, $129MM contract.) Notably, Rosenthal cites one source in suggesting that Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is “seriously focused” on acquiring Corbin, though Washington’s history of baking heavy deferrals into long-term contracts isn’t always well received by free agents."

Steal all the bases

Isnt Corbin from NY?

At Corbin’s wedding this year, his brother gave a speech, put on a Yankees cap and said he was looking forward to Patrick coming closer to home.
