If the Mariners are eating anything even remotely significant, this is a good move by the Mets. It's basically the equivalent of us giving up Erik Fedde and Juis Garcia. If that gets you Diaz and Cano at under 20 million AAV, that's a deal I'd want to make.

Mariners are giving up 60 million. So they're eating half the contract and giving up the best closer in baseball (with 4 years of TC left) for meh prospects.

Did we even ask? I mean .... jeez. 12 million for Cano is .... worth it. Hell, he's worth it just to get Diaz and flip him at the deadline.

who is reporting that they're eating $60 million? all i'm seeing is an old tweet about it with someone predicting it. that's an insane amount and i don't believe that. that makes the deal good for the mets as they're not paying above market rate for a player like cano

(MLBTR projected Corbin to sign a six-year, $129MM contract.) Notably, Rosenthal cites one source in suggesting that Nationals GM Mike Rizzo is “seriously focused” on acquiring Corbin, though Washington’s history of baking heavy deferrals into long-term contracts isn’t always well received by free agents."
