It's Nightengale, so huge grain of salt, but D-Backs are legit having a firesale.

I wonder how much salary they'd be willing to eat. The comparable trade would be Justin Verlander being dealt to the Astros. None of the prospects the Astros dealt were in the top 100. Our equivalent would probably be Antuna, Fedde, and Daniel Johnson.

The DBacks have Goldshmidt, Grienke, and Peralta to rebuild with. Goldshmidt has one year left at an extremely team friendly salary of 14.5 million. Peralta is Arb 2, so he is also salary friendly. Looking at those three players and comparable trades, the D-Backs want something of value, they need to eat salary.

Would the Dbacks be willing to eat 10-15 million a year of Grienke's salary, in exchange for Carter Keiboom, Yasel Antuna, and Mason Denaburg?

I'd then see if they're willing to deal Robbie Ray for Michael Taylor and pick two of: Luis Garcia/Wil Crowe/Erik Fedde/Seth Romero/Raudy Read

This gives you your 3 & 4 starters for 30 million a year, while leaving you money to still go get another free agent (say, second base), or money to extend Rendon.

On the now defunct other forum, I was pleading at the 2017 trading deadline for management to re-acquire Suzuki. It was a missed opportunity. Now the chickens have come home to roost.

So with Suzuki signed, while we may end up acquiring another catcher later, I think for now he's the #1 and all the other guys we have compete for #2. If something presents itself later, then we'll act.

With the glut of 2B options available, I think Rizzo is content to say we're riding with Howie/Difo and he'll see what bargains are available later.

We've already addressed the bullpen, so while Rizzo will still monitor the market, it's not a priority.

The #1 priority now is acquring a top-shelf starting pitcher.

I firmly believe we need to acquire a #1 or 2 caliber SP to sit in the 3 spot in case we either...

A) Stras misses time next season

B) Stras doesn’t get that velocity back

Are they hoping to get rid of that salary or get prospects? If they want to pay and get prospects in return I say no go.

But I’d have no issue taking all that money as long as I don’t give them much.

Roark is my #5 next year. Means I got some shopping to do.

But there have been other players who voiced similar sentiments and one could argue that they would be right. The question now for 2019 is can he help us win and can we make a competitive offer to get him here?
