Tou could probably find the same for a few teams--someone picks them. Cubs. Dodgers. Indians. I think the Vegas odds are a good way to look at who the favorite was.

Vegas odds are based on bets placed by schmucks like you and me...and we keep those places open with our bad judgement...

Ask the Edmonton Oilers or Golden Knights what they think of the Vegas Odds...

Maybe not 4 straight years, and maybe not to actually win it all, but they were favorites to make it to the WS probably 4 out of the last 6 years and never made it past the first round and in some of those years didn't even make the playoffs.

I mean Sports illustrated isn’t oddsmakers. I just don’t remember the Nats being odds on favorites to win the series four straight years. Nor do I remember projections making them the favorite either.
Chris Russo picked the Nats this year. That didn’t make them the favorites. That’s the same as SI picking them. One guy with no skin in the game.

But it doesn’t matter. The point I was trying to make was that the Nats had really good teams, but I don’t think that they were ever head and shoulders above the rest of the league and certainly not for 4 straight years.

The Nationals had the second most wins from 2014 through 2017. They were as good as anyone. Trying to make an arguement that they were not serious world series contenders is moronic. The whole point of the Strasburg Shutdown was that the Nationals expected to be in WS contention for seasons to come.

The Nats have been at or near the bottom of the league in strength of schedule since 2013.

Fair enough...I saw that you linked one of their articles and thought I'd reference them as well...

MLB Network talking heads were saying the Nats would win the Series since 2013. Vegas doesn't have skin in the game, per se...the simply react to what stupid people like you and me bet and then move their margins to allow them the best shot to get their 17% on the wagers...

I didn't include 2012 because that was the last year we had a tough road to the playoffs. I'm a huge Baker fan but he had an easy path, as did Williams. Those division wins should have an asterisk they were so easy. Sucks that we couldn't take advantage while the window was open.

You're missing the point. Strength of Schedule means exactly dick in the postseason. It's why Baker sucks so badly in the playoffs. You're not facing a team that's going to leave their starting pitcher in for 5-7 innings, unless they're totally dominant. You're not facing 4/5 starters.

In 2012, the Nats had a .609 winning percentage outside of their division.
IN 2014, it was .593.
2016: .511
2017: .581

They didn't have an easy road to the playoffs. They were better than everyone else. They were a lot better than everyone else.
