Interesting how he gets sick always near or during the same period.
Wait, what did we decide about discussing personal information about wives?  I would think periods would be off-limits.

I'm kinda carrying that flag.  Women like baseball too, and they have periods all the time, so...

Just waiting for JCA to move this to the Red Loft... :D

Seems like his immune system is just fine. He's in there.

Homeschooled children generally have worse immune systems because they arent exposed to as many germs, and thus, dont get experience at fighting them off. Harper reminds me of several kids I knew in middle school who were homeschooled for elementary school. They all seemed to be sick two to three days a month.

No, it's genetic. Homeschooled children have worse immune systems because their parents are crazy.

They don’t have a worse immune system. They just haven’t been exposed to the bugs that normal kids do when they go to preschool or elementary school. Every kid takes his lumps eventually. And it happens whenever they get first get around other kids and their germs on a regular basis. Send your kid to daycare and he’ll get sick a lot when he starts. Hold him out of daycare and he gets sick when he starts elementary school. Hold him out of elementary school and he gets sick when he gets to middle school. They are usually fine after that.

So, basically, their immune system is worse. Like I said

how is getting sick after initial exposure, regardless of when it occurs, a symptom of a worse immune system?

Who has a better immune system?

Person A - Not been exposed to a disease
Person B - Been exposed to a disease

Like I said before, Harper gets sick an awful lot, even for someone who lives in a locker room environment.

Arguing over Bryce Harper’s immune system might be a low point for this forum.

Those are contradictory statements.  You improve your immune system by building up immunity. You build immunity by incurring a disease and letting your immune system fight it off after which (in most cases) you're now immune to that disease.  And the more diseases you build immunity to, the better your immune system

I don't know. Just earlier in this thread they were talking about the effect of his wife and marriage on his play. Both are incredibly inane and it's really hard for me to choose.

The more inane, the more entertaining, and after all isn't that what we're here for?

Most times inane is entertaining. Sometimes inane is just inane. It's very subjective and it really depends on how grouchy I am that day.

I don’t particularly understand the hatred for Harper on this site? He seems like a decent dude and in what is being considered a “poor” season he’s going to hit 30+homeruns and nearly 100 RBIs. I mean it’s now getting to the point where guys like Slateman are nagging about his immune system. Obviously if you’ve never liked the guy it’s easier to dogpile but he’s a hell of a baseball player and he’s 25-years old and only going to get better. The Lerner’s aren’t going to let him walk which is fine by me.

It's not hatred. Its disappointment.

For one, Harper has only played a full season twice (assuming no major DL stint this season).

Second, Harper was touted as a future Hall of Famer. Once in a generation talent. The Chosen One. And we've seen it one season. So far, he's averaged 128 games a season, 25 home runs, and a .285/.386/.515. Like, that's really good, but that doesn't match the hype. That's basically Freddie Freeman.

He is terribly inconsistent. Between DL time and trying to play with injuries, you really arent certain which Harper you're going to get. I mean, this guy wants 30+million a year and he cant hit above the Mendoza Line for two months? He may get better but better than what? 2014? 2016?

Finally, it's been shown time and time again that overcomitting payroll to a player is detrimental to team success. Harper's salary could cost us the ability to keep Rendon long term, sign a quality pitcher, and have money available to pick up a reliever or other player at the deadline in a pennant race

What have we won since he has taken the mantle from Zimmerman?

And he sucks the life out of a room.  Personality doesn't play well with others and puts everybody else not named Jayson Werth in uncomfortable positions.
