I think some of your are going way overboard on this notion his value has significantly dropped and he needs to rebuild his value. Manny Machado had a very similarly bad first half last year. Teams know what Bryce Harper brings to the table. His value might be slightly lower now than it was in April, but when you're talking about the kind of dollars he's looking at, it's a drop in the bucket in the long run. NO WAY he gambles on signing some 1 year deal when he can lock himself into guaranteed HUGE money long-term. NO WAY. There are situations where it makes sense to "rebuild" value and roll the dice, but this isn't it at all. Why try and "rebuild" your value from 30 mill a year to 35 mill a year or whatever over 10 years when you could slump again next year, suffer a terrible injury, etc? If you can sign a 200, 300, 400? million dollar deal long-term, you DO IT. You don't risk it all to add a few million more per year.
